No idea what I should be looking for clothes wise. I have no dress sense and am overweight so everything looks crap on me. I'm 5'3", dress size 12-14 (depending on shop and style), am rather curvaceous, neat waist but large backside, wobbly thighs and thick legs/ankles. Any suggestions about what style of clothes I should look for / avoid and any good shops to look in? Want something nice but dont want to end up in the same outfit as other guests and dont want to spend more that £150 if I can avoid it.

go into any Debenhams store and ask the customer advisers on the counter, they are all trained in colour, style and fit. (Trinney and Susanna style)
They'll be able to help you and there usually spot on.
They can help you pick out clothes, shoes and accessories.

I think a nice, tailored pantsuit in a dark jewel tone, such as plum, deep purple or teal blue would be beautiful on you. Under the jacket you could wear a lace cami, or a silk scarf that picks up the color of your outfit. You want to bring the focus to the upper part of your body. Finally, a pair of bejeweled earrings and a pretty bracelet or ring will complete the outfit. I'd wear a nice pair of pumps -- either suede or patent, or an ankle boot with at least a 2" heel. Then a spritz of a spicy or piney fragrance, and you're all set. Have a great time at the wedding!

Marilyn Monroe had a figure just like yours! So look to her for inspiration, if it's a super posh do go for 50's glamour with long satin nipped in waisted dresses (watch how to marry a millionaire and you'll see what I mean!)
If it's less formal this season's trends are very 40's and 50's inspired as well, with cute pencil skirts (which hide thighs) and nipped in waists wear a large belt around the smallest part of your waist to emphasise it like Marilyn, and a cute little jacket.
Or a classic trouser suit is always elegant.
Designers at Debanhama is a good starting place!
Have fun and hope you find something wonderful!

It seems to me that you do not so much need style advice as therapy! Overweight? 5'3'' and a size 14? That is exactly normal! As some others have suggested most good department stores have personal shoppers who will give invaluable advice. ( I suppose I'm biased since I am 5'3'' and a size 12 to 14 but most people consider me slim and I'd rather like to be more "curvaceous"!)

My friend is a similar size and when I got married last Novenber she was also in a bit of a panic about what to wear. After trying on the entire range in all the shops (it seemed!!) the shops that came out with the best fitting outfits were Coast and Kew. She ended up with a skirt from Kew and a fancy wrap around top from Coast. And looked fab!

Go for a tunic over a pair of tailored trousers. Pick a tunic in a bright colour and detail around the neckline to deter attention from your bum! Pick trousers that just skim your legs, but not too high waisted. Tunics are very in this season!! Good luck!!

I'd go for a trouser suit with a fitted jacket and a low, low cut top (to show off your fabulous cleavage!), a pair of killer heels and matching handbag and you're going to look fantastic! Enjoy the wedding.

I would so go slinky with what your telling me.... a white/beige pant outfit . The top needs to extend to your hips covering your stomach and not baggy...fitted. Your pants do not need to be oversized witch means that your thighs do not need to like mchammer. they should be slim, stright and fitted as well. I say slinky because it gives you room to move. it will also give your curvatious backside a smoother look.
