an object try to keep it self in motion if it is in motion and it tries to keep it self static when it is in statical position.

Well, the answer to this is not as simple as you might like.

However the simplest example of work is given by the formulae: Work = Force X Distance.

But this only applies when a consistent force is applied to an object in a consistent direction. For example if you lift a box weighing 10 pounds up a height of 5 feet the work you do is: 10 pounds X 5 feet = 50 foot pound.

There are much more complicated formules for other conditions however.

But, as a generalisation, we can say that work moves an object.
