Wash them with other jeans w/ Fabric Softner, try running them through 2-3 times before initial drying.

It's all in the laundering. For fading, wash them several times in hot water with bleach added. For softening, use fabric softener in the rinse water. Eventually, the sizing will wash out of them and they will look and feel more comfortable. Don't be surprised though, if the hot water makes them shrink.

If you're a cheapo like me, get a bucket of hot water and stick 'em in... give it time, then add washing powder. stir, PRESTO! (rinse 'em after)
