Hi. 14-18 days is not a long time to see much of the USA- it's a big place. Flying from NYC to Los Angeles or San Francisco is basically a full day of travel plus $400- $800 USD so you probably want to focus on one region rather than trying to hit all the hot-spots. Keep in mind, too, that American transportation is nothing like in Europe. We have trains but Amtrak can be expensive and local routes are on a spoke system (major city to surroundings only) and can be difficult to find information. Busses are virtually non-exsistent except for city commuting. So, unless you're going to the Northeast (Washington DC to Boston MA) you really should plan on renting a car.

Mini routes:
No car: Northeastern Cities: Washington DC to Philadelphia PA to New York City to Boston MA... 2-3 days each city. Or, drop off a city and spend more time exploring the surroundings... These are VERY different cities, all within a few hours of each other, rich in American history with terrific architecture and museums. Great food and great nightlife but might be expensive depending on where you come from.
With car: Pacific Northwest: Seattle WA, Portland OR, Northern California (maybe as far south as San Francisco)- Islands of the coast of Seattle (great nightlife), hiking Mount McKinley or Mount St Helen's (volcano), Oregon and California wineries, state forests and beautiful countryside then down to SF for more great food and some fantastic modern museums.

There are so many other possibilities- (touring the Rocky Mountians, visiting the deserts in Arizona/ Nevada then up to ski near Lake Tahoe (CA), Chicago & the Midwest, New England)- the hardest part will be to choose. Good luck!

Depends on the type of places that interest you, But If you've never been before and want to see a lot of places visit NYC, whilst here get a trip to Niagara falls for a day or so, visit Las Vegas, and from here I'd recommend a Ranch Stay at the Grand Canyon for a couple of days, also visit San Francisco, where you can take a couple of day trips out to Alcatraz, the Napa Valley & National Parks up there, Other places possibly worth visiting are Miami, New Orleans or if you do go to San Fran, maybe worth a few days up in Vancouver where you can do some amazing grizzly bear & whale watching. The best company to put something like this together for you is Airline Network, call them on 08707000525.
I have done a few trips around USA and have always booked through them with no problems, they are difficult to beat on price too.

Fly into Atlanta, book a week in Georgia, we stayed in a little place called Ellijay. Get lots of tourist leaflets, pick places to visit, we visited a gold town to name but a few. Pop over the border into Tennessee to Chattanoga see the sites including the Mountain where you can see 5 states. Second week pop down to Florida, Stay a couple of days in Orlando, see attractions and then pop on down to Fort Myers. Lots to see down here. Sannibel island, the everglades, etc. Fly back from Miami. Then take a rest, you'll need it.

Mapquest et al are previous ineffective so do no longer use them :use paper maps instead do no longer lease a camper van by way of fact they are not a less costly decision for something decrease than 8 people .instead lease the biggest 4 door motor vehicle which you will locate that supplies countless mileage and stay in sturdy $40-$60 in step with night hotels One-way automobile leases tend to be quite costly so shop around and comprehend that it is often greater inexpensive to lease a automobile at an area branch of large national corporation than it is on the airport branch of the comparable corporation to date as coast to coast circumstances flow: My very own maximum suitable NYC to San Francisco time is fifty six hours and we've been popping amphetamines like they have been M&Ms on that one and u . s . of america had approximately one hundred,000,00 fewer people residing in it meaning much less site visitors Realistically you're able to do it in one hundred hours w/o combating for lots different than get a sturdy nights sleep and a first rate meal or 2 u . s . of america is a huge u . s . and as such you're no longer likely to confirm each little thing in one pass >so make a catalogue of your "could sees" and flow from there risk-free holiday
