The spleen is located just behind the stomach on the left side of your body. It serves to store extra red blood cells in your body. It also removes old red blood cells from circulation. It sends the old red blood cells to the liver and the liver sends them out in your feces. So the spleen does not play a vital role in our health. That is why you can live without it.

Spleen has a reticuloendothelial system that helps clean your blood. It removes dead, damaged, old and dying RBC from circulation.

Your liver also helps clean your blood by removing toxins, removing bilirubin.
