You would need to check your state for laws regarding emancipation. It is possible in TX at 17 (and I think even 16) under certain circumstances. Primarily, you have to be able to provide for yourself financially (BEFORE you are emancipated) because otherwise, no one will want to rent to you because contracts with minors are usually voidable. Additionally, you would have to go through the courts, which would take longer than just waiting (and saving your money) until your birthday.

That of course is the "formal" way of doing things. Assuming you have ("had" if you are moving) a job (or savings), you could probably find some landlord that would take advance cash and not care whether you are a legal adult or not.

You don't say why your mom is psychotic, and teens have a natural tendency to act out / against their parents. You should take a real hard look and see if that is not the case and you should talk to a school counselor if there are indeed problems at home. If your mom is truly psychotic (although I doubt your qualification to make that assessment) then, at your age, you can easily get CPS involved.

Good luck!

Legally, you should wait until Dec 27. You could apply to become an 'emancipated minor' but with only two months to go, it isn't worth it.

In practical terms if you did move out now, with your family history, the authorities are unlikely to act to return you to your mother's home if:

You have a safe place to stay (relative etc)
You have a source of funds (job, savings)
You are not considered delinquent (registered for school if necessary, haven't broken any laws etc).

If you do move out now, make sure your mother knows where you are, or she may report you as missing, which could involve the police/FBI.

Wait until you're at the age of majority. Then you'll have no legal problems.

Start making your plans & doing your research while still at home. Save all your money. Make sure that you're able to support yourself with the basics of food, clothing & shelter. When you're out on your own, there's no one but you to help you, psychotic or not.

well if you were earning enough you could move out on your own. as you are still at school without your parents help this wont be possible. you only have a few month left - easy for me to say i know - but use the time to look in to your options: where to live, how to pay for it etc. believe me the thought of living on your own is great but the costs are a lot higher than you imagine.

When you turn 18, you dont need legal help. You are considered an adult and can move out. You will need a job though!

Good luck! If you go this way you will need it!
You don't need legal advice you can certainly do what you want!
You need practical advice like:
Where will you live?
How will you eat?
How will you have or get health insurance?
How will you obtain trasportation?
Your mother will certainly not be obligated to provide these for you - you will find out quickly how difficult these things are!

Emancipation is at 18 and wait till December 27 so that you could validly act on your own.

You can file for emancipation of a minor (I think at 16). Stop by your local courthouse.
