I am a college freshman and I am running a survey for my women's studies class about why is it not OK for men to wear pink and why it is considered a women's color. For my project to work I need to ask everyone a big favor. Would you please let me know whether you are a man or a woman. I will need to know that in order to classify the opinions based on gender. Also if you are interested in knowing the results of this survey please leave me your email adress and i will get back to you as soon as the results are in. Thank you very much.

I love men in pink: shirts (Polo's & Dress Shirts) not pants ... giggle. I think the pink brings color to the man's faces and this makes him more attractive.

i think it really depends on HOW you wear it! For instance my son has a pink shirt that reads "Keep laughing this is your girlfriend's shirt" Pastel pink is cool for guys, I don't think hot pink (think 80's hot pink) should be worn by a man. And only one article of clothing should be pink. I wouldn't want to see a guy all decked out in this color unless he's a pimp...lol! Also, I think that a black suit like a tux and a pink (dark pink) looks very nice together. Like I said it's HOW you wear it! A man who can wear pink is very confident with their sexuality. Now if they're wearing a pink shirt with rainbows and butterflies than that would be a different story. I have no idea why pink is considered a "women's" color, it's just something that is pounded into our brains from birth. Think about it...they won't wrap a newborn baby boy in a pink blanket at the hospital!

I'm a woman and my opinion is that pink screams FEMININE! It's the ultimate girly color. In today's world, most people who see a man wearing pink automatically assumes he's gay. I have a cousin who is gay and his favorite color is pink. Personally I don't like seeing a man wear pink. I really don't know why. I've been thinking about any possible reasons while reading your question and thinking about my answer but I haven't come up with anything yet. All I can say is that I just don't like it.

I'm a woman, and I like the color pink. I don't see anything wrong with a man wearing pink. I don't think it is a "gay" color. It is just a color. Also some people have skin tones that go really well with pink. IMO if it looks good on you, wear it! However, NEON pink doesn't look good on ANYONE!!! And if this "80's" trend in clothing takes off anymore than it already has, we are all going to need to wear sunglasses to protect our eyes from the outragious colors!!

There are definitely cultural differances here.

In the UK (and the most anglophile parts of the US - new england I'd guess) pink has always been worn by men. Not head to toe pink, but a pink sweater or shirt or tie. It looks good with a navy suit. It matches the paper on the financial times ;)

Blue was chosen as a 'boy' colour. Pink became used for girls for one reason - pink and blue look nice together. This holds true for infants in a nursery, and it holds true for a pink shirt with a blue suit. I think its really more an american thing to think of pink as being exclusively for women.

I wear some pink shirts, and I don't consider it daring. My grandfather wore pink shirts with his dark suits, so can I.

Traditionally pink was reserved for girls and blue for boys.
The only reason I think is to tell if a baby is a boy or a girl. Infants don't usually have masculine or feminine features so its hard to tell.
As far as an adult. I suppose its a matter of taste not a matter of masculine or feminine. i have seen very feminine men sport leather jackets and ride motor cycles. On the other hand I have seen masculine men wear bright pinks and be very flashy.
I personally rarely even notice...unless its like a bright pink and obviously tacky.
ps...im female

My brother in laws favorite color is pink and no, he's not gay. He works in an upper class department store and wears his pink dress shirts with his slacks quite often. If he were to wear all pink then I'd wonder if he was gay but to wear a pink shirt that is not the entire outfit just part of it. I also think it takes a very secure male to wear pink. I am a female btw.

Pink is for women. The feminist movement has been successful on several fronts in an effort to break down the sexual barriers. That is why young boys are running around with hair color and earrings instead of developing their inherent masculine traits. I think it leads to serious confusion in the minds of young boys. The feminist movement is a failure and a detriment to society which is becoming more evident in the manifestation of youth violence. There will always be a difference between femininity and masculinity. The Freudian phrase concerning penis envy is alive and well. When will women be happy being women? I think women are wonderful and enjoy spending time with them. On the other hand I find it disturbing to see them in combat boots and on construction sites but I'm old and from the old school.
Man!

Its a very intelligent poll. But Here is where I stand. Pastels in general for MEN are only okay after a certain age. 40. when you are 40 you can start to where practically anything to distract from the receding hair line and the grays that went there yesterday.
Now My opinion comes to those who don't follow this rule. Those who choose to ignore it , either don't know about it or, think they are good enough to where the color anyway.
Don't DO IT!!!! follow the rule and the fashion junkies of the world will not have to come and kick you in the shin.!

Although most men find it feminine and avoid wearing pink, there are still some men that do like it and feel comfortable wearing it.
It all depends on your taste for the color and your confidence levels!

I am a woman and I do not mind men that wear pink . Its how you act and not the color preference that you exhibit that matters!

Glad to help with your project. I am a woman and I think that men wearing pink is just fine. I don't think that its just a woman's color. I have seen many handsome men in nice pink shirts under pinstriped suits. I think that if a man wears pink he is very okay with his sexuality.
I'd love to know your results
