My husband and I were given certificates for 90 minute swedish massages for our wedding and I had read that massage may not be healthy for pregnant women, but i wondered if that was further on in your pregnancy or not. I am about one month.

A good massage therapist will know whether or not it is okay for you (ask your doctor though...very important). There are certain strokes and areas of the body (such as the ankles) that are avoided during pregnancy and there are certain concessions that will be made in body positioning of a pregnant woman, but I shouldn't be a bad thing at all.

Massage during pregnancy is GREAT. Having them regularly can help to keep your body in balance and keep the aches and pains of pregnancy away. I had one every month (at least!) through all three of my pregnancies. There are simply certain pressure points that the MT needs to stay away from (mostly on the feet) of a pregnant women. Make sure the MT knows you are pregnant. Keeping your body in balance will make labor easier when it comes. Also, having regular massages will teach you to relax more fully which will be helpful in labor.

I wouldn't get the swedish massage, but they do have pregnancy massage that some places offer. They just avoid certain pressure points like between your thumb and index finger and some on your feet, that may cause cramping and/or preterm labor.

Certain massages are bad later on in pregnancy because a certain stimulation can cause labor.. if you are just in your first trimester I wouldn't worry about it.. Just let them know you are pregnant.. Also see if you can trade in the Swedish massage for a prenatal massage and use it later... you won't regret it.

Congrats on the pregnancy.

Depends upon the type of massage. Massage in the abdomen is not advisable as it is obvious that it may harm the fetus inside.

I seriously suggest you ask your doctor....a 5 minute phone call would be enough.

You may get an incorrect answer......something like this should be discussed with your doctor......not us on YA.
