I'm referring, of course, to Ben Roethlisberger, who took helmet-to-helmet contact from not one but TWO Atlanta Falcon defenders in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game and sustained a concussion from it.
I'm not complaining about the outcome of the game, but why were no penalties called?

FYI, I know there's no such thing as a penalty for getting hurt. However, there most certainly IS a penalty for helmet-to-helmet contact.

ok, there is no such thing as a clean helmet to helmet hit, that should have been a personal foul for roughing the passer, and on friday we will find out what the league thinks by wether or not they decided to fine chauncey davis for the hit, as for what i think, hell yeah there should have been a flag, they've been thrown for a lot less, even bengals fans got to see that a week ago.

The hit was clean, both defenders kept their heads up and were trying to hit Roethlisberger low. When Rotty saw the hit coming, he started to fall down to soften the blow, which caused the Falcons players to inadvertantly make contact with his head. The helmet to helmet was initiated by Roethlisberger, so no penalty was called. If the QB makes a move to lower his head into a defender (even unintentionally), the refs by rule will not call the helmet to helmet penalty.

Sorry but honestly as I watched the helmet to helmet hit looked clean. I am a Steelers fan but man I think we have to let them play if it is a clean hit. Also I don't think the other one was helmet to helmet. The other thing to keep in mind is that he started to fall back to absorb the hit so maybe that helmet to facemask was in part his fault.
OK appearently you people don't know about the penalty for hitting helmet to helmet. Well other then the person who wrote the question. Yes there is a penalty for it. You will likely see the NFL issue a fine for the hit. That is the right thing to do even if it was a clean hit.

Sorry - I did not get a close enough look at the play in question.
If it was helmet-to-helmet contact, or a blow to his head, period, it should have been a 15-yard penalty against the Falcons.
From the quick shot I saw, it looked like he was sandwiched by the two defenders, and it was a fairly vicious hit, but illegal? I could not tell if they delivered blows to his head, though.
Hope Ben bounces back; he's a great young qb.

Not sure but I heard there is a new menu items at Atlanta sports bars called the Roethlisberger.
I have not seen the replay but if it was helmet to helmet that should have been a penalty.

You are right and there is really no reason why the referees in question let these hits go without penalty. Only now are some professional athletes realizing the gravity of the concussions they experience while playing. Get others involved like you are doing here and perhaps the game tapes will show the missed call thereby making referees more responsible for the on field decisions they make.

After seeing it, i do no longer see something incorrect with the hit, different than Comeau by no potential performs the %. till AFTER he gets leveled. possibly a double minor for interference could have been greater ideal. besides the shown fact that, i do no longer think of he adorned it...he rather have been given nailed and mandatory some moments, like once you get the wind knocked out of you. Islanders are fragile sufficient because it quite is,lol. what's much greater astonishing is that Bailey replaced into the 1st one in. So, possibly no longer till the subsequent era, yet how approximately 10 minutes? BQ..Does going to the large League challenge (while they used to do it right here) in order that i might desire to boo Barry vast Head count huge style?

There isn't a penalty for getting hurt. He should have decided to use the special helmet that had more protection. He decided not to just like he decided not to wear a helmet while riding his bike.
