The Dr. will give you an approximate due date on your first visit, but watch out! That first estimate can be really soft, especially if you had light periods lately. I'm getting ready to start a long-term substitute teaching job for a nice person who's getting ready for her first baby. We thought the sub time would start right after the Christmas break. When she went in for an appointment at the end of her first trimester, the Dr. bumped her due date back by 2 months! She's due any day now.

Yes honey, that will be one of the first things that he/she will do. Your first visit is always so much fun because somehow it makes it real. You really KNOW that you ARE going to have a baby! I always loved it. Plus you get to sit there in the waiting room with all the other ladies and their big tummies!
Just a hint......get a little spiral notebook and write down all your questions in it. Keep it handy and when something pops in your head, jot it down. Then when you go to the drs. keep it in your hand, (not in your purse where it will be clear across the room when you need it!) and ask her your questions before she leaves. That will save you the frustration of saying "Why didn't I ask_____(fill in the blank)!". I always had a little notebook for each pregnancy and they become good references especially if you write down the answers! That can help too.
Good luck honey and Blessed Be
Lady T~

You can calculate your due date yourself, count 40 weeks from the first day of your last period, thats how dr's do it. At around 12 weeks you will have a dating scan that will confirm how far gone you are and they will adjust your due date accordingly!

If you dont have a way of counting 40 weeks then go to this site

it'll calculate everything for you

get a calander and count 40 weeks from the FIRST day of your LAST period and this will be your 'due date' That's how the doc will do it but it will be confirmed at your first scan when thay take maesurements of the baby to see how much it's developed. This is only a guide though - baby will come when it's good and ready!

When I was pregnant my Doctor taught me an easy way to estimate my due date.Heres how.Take the date of your last period. Then add 7 to the dadte. So for example say it was the 5th of the month youd add 7 to that so you would get the number 12.Then add nine months from the month. So if you got it in September last it would be June.Hope this helps.I was right with 5 of my six kids.

Yes, he will give you a due date on your first visit based on your last period. But sometimes, when they do an ultrasound later on, they move the due date some.

Usually. S/he wil try to just determine the due date by the first day of your last period. If they aren't sure, they will do a scan basically an ultrasound. it will just look like a peanut. CONGRATS!!

Based on your dates the Dr will give you an EDD. However, it is the first ultrasound that will most accurately determine the EDD.

No actually after you are at least 6weeks or even maybe a month that is when the doctor gives you the correct due date of your pregnancy

they go by the first day of your last menstral cycle. lots of times you don't find out until they see the ultra sound picture. my last baby was originally due June 19th, but my u.s. pictures proved them to be a month off. she was born May 24th. Get as many pictures as you can & it will be easier to determine!! Best of luck to you and your new baby!! The greatest gift in the world is motherhood!! Remember that everytime you want to strangle them!!Just kidding, but searously, ENJOY!!!
