Pathetic isn't it? On the other hand, what made our nation so great was our inventions and the industrial revolution that we were able to dominate economically worldwide.It was the atomic age that brought us into power. You could hardly call any of that due to a poor education! Now, it's can we hold onto that domination with the new generations coming up in America? I don't know which country said it but they said " you can't beat the Americans with weapons, you have to beat them economically.All we have to do is keep pumping drugs into their country and their youth". Scary thought but some reality to it.
Several reasons why we are poorly educated vs. the Globe:
I don't think kids today are hopeful of their future as the cost of going to college is skyrocketing. Our government isn't making it lucrative to attract good teachers. Our teachers and students today are faced with violence in the schools. No wonder why nobody wants to become a teacher. Students get home schooled or quit. Citizens are tired of being taxed to death so when it comes to school levys to keep the schools running they fail and the schools depend on those levys as the state only gives them so much to run on.
I believe that we are the only nation in the world where students have to pay for their college education. There's not a lot of people that I've talked to with some college background that isn't default on a student loan and some have even had their wages garnisheed because of defaults. Because of higher costs of college, kids who are economically disadvantaged find that the grants just don't cover it anymore.
One of our most precious freedoms is getting a public education. We need to take care of it and nurture it or like a plant without sunlight it will surely die.
