Using Nero, choose to make a Video CD, or VCD.

(You can't just burn the .avi directly to a CD-R because DVD players wouldn't have the necessary codecs to play it back.)

To view media on a DVD player, it has to be converted into an Image format and burnt to disc using a program like Nero or CD R WIN. Normally you can download ready made IMG files and burn them, or you can find a program to convert from one format into a readable DVD format. I cannot remember any off the top of my head but i'm sure there's a tonne on google, just type AVI to ISO or IMG converter.

use Roxio version 8 or above. actually, dont need DVD players, there is a Philips DVD player play with divx and mpeg files. The DVD player costs about $50 bucks in Bestbuy or Circuit City. You can burn many movies into one DVD, and that will save you a lot of DVD instead one DVD. quality should be the same with computer. Really good. I am waiting for the one can play everything. WMV. MP4. and many other types. When you buy it, should look at Divx player option. IS THAT HELP...?

U can do it with Nero7.But it takes a lot of time to convert AVI files to VOB. (My advice is write AVI files in DVD-Data format.Recent dev players are accepting this format and u can watch avi files in DVD.)

you must have a AVI to VCD converter software,
I use cucusoft MPEG/AVI to VCD converter, it works great for converting video files to VCD and DVD.
Get it here: http://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DVD-Converter/MPEG-AVI-to-DVD-VCD-Converter.html
