2. ask people to sign up for a committee during work hours to brainstorm some common themes that symbolize the company and the image you are trying to project. Once a list is compliled hire someone to paint or caligraphy them onto common work walls to reinforce these ideas. Keep the phrases motivational and upbeat.

3. don't give lame little gifts for holidays or special occasions like free items from a client or customer. The company will look cheap and the employees will only be laughing about it in disgust. Consider why you are losing employees.
There may be a variety of reasons for different people. Some people may get more pay from other employers. Some people may feel that you disrespect them, or you are not worth respecting. The industry may be of a nature that employees will migrate no matter what you do to stop them. There might be employees who are sabotaging the morale of other employees creating an unloyal wrokforce.
There are plenty of reasons why people change jobs, but security is the only reason people stay in the same job for any amount of time. Look at the past, people would stay in the same job they got when they left high school, and these lucky people would stay working for that one company for their entire working life. But today the business environment is defined so that people don't have security, so many people are just looking for more and more money and they have lost the basic sense of security.Oh well, people will still vote for those idiots in parliment wont they, but not me.

Unfortunately, employees work for salary...even when they are doing something the love... Better benefits, stock options, days off, etc are nothing more then anthor form a salary... Thus, stick to what keeps people stationary..., salary...

If it is worth the cost to keep them, then it is worth the cost to pay them a $1.00 above the average...

Benefits and incentives are attractive options. Things like paid healthcare or very low employee deductions for healthcare. Onsite daycare for parents, time off for sickness or childs sickness, vacation pay, bonuses or christmas packages. Club stores memberships, employee gym on site. Ther are alot of things that make staying at a job more attractive than leaving for more money. Make it more convienient for them to want to stay. Good Luck..and Thanks for the Great Question !!!

See Maslow's Hierachy of Needs (Maslow was an economist who gave a list of things an employee needs). There are

Self Actualization Needs (full potential)
Ego Needs (self respect, personal worth, autonomy)
Social Needs (love, friendship, comradeship)
Security Needs (protection from danger)
Physiological Needs (warmth, shelter, food)

well as I am a bit mercenary, i'll always go where I find the beter money. if you want to keep someone like me, who's loyalty is in directrelation to the green stuff in my pocket, you got to pay me and pay me well. The rest is just drivel I could care less about. If you want to pay me a crappy low wage for my services, you will lose me faster than a set of rims at a puff daddy concert.

Respect. If an employee feels respected and valued they will stay longer with or without raises.

respect, compliments where due, dignity, and listen to your employee`s, (they may surprise you).
even though you stated, "aside from salary rises", pay them good, not just fairly.

Flexible hours. Give them as much flexibility as you can. Even give them options to work from home completely or part time.
