Hi !..
First of all, i would like to tell you that I'm Tunisian, and I'm proud to be so.
May i make some comments about our friend's answers :
- I would like to correct xenon concerning the Tunisian exchange
regulation: ye you can exchange yr remained Dinars to a
your foreign currency at the airport or any border check-point
but up to 30% of the amount you already exchanged during yr
stay.So it' recommended to exchange according to yr needs
and not to have too much dinars left at departure.
Also yr advise to the "women alone" not to travel there,i
disagree with you.Because it always depend how you
behave in a foreign country,so yr advise is not specific for
Tunisia, and all depend on you.Don't worry the country is
known to be quite safe and secure.
To Edison, i would like to ask him, why he used such words to
give us his impressions about a country he visited a lot ( for
what purpose?..) He seems very skilled, and as the
Tunisians according to him don't like to change themselves,
so it'was very wise that he changed to another African
country where he is not known yet.Tunisia is missing you
Edison,please come back..help..help..!
P.S.: I wrote yesterday an asnwer to Donna H's question, but
i deleted it by mistake. Is it possible to publish it again? I don't
know about the regulation for that specific case.Thankh you.

I am an American who has been living in Tunisia for the past 5+ years. I am married to a Tunisian.

I love Tunisia very much! The country is so full of history (has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French; played a significat part in WWII, was the center of the ancient world with Carthage as the capitol, etc) and it has so many beatiful places to visit! It is unlike any other Arab country in that is has a lot of greenery. There are also many historical ruins in just about every part of the country you go to.

The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgetten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm.

The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful.

Tunisia truly is one of a kind and I feel blessed to be able to live here! It truly has become my home!

I visited Tunisia for two weeks about 13 years ago now and I thought it was a very beautiful country. I visited many different areas as I did a land cruise, and went across the dessert, salt lakes, and saw the atlas mountains. I loved the Medina's (sorry about spelling) and thought they were great. The only thing that I felt a bit uncomfortable with was how some men grabbed me and kept trying to buy me from my parents! Otherwise a great place to visit.

I went there October 2005 with my family (14 of us!) It was hard work at first, and I didn't like the constant hassle. I have a 4 year old girl (3 years old then) and they are very affectionate towards little ones, sometimes too much. The weather is great, as is the scenery etc. But take your Diocalm and insect repellant. Similar to Egypt, but not as good. A great, cheap holiday either way. A beautiful place, and some of the most hospitable people I have ever met.

I think Tunisia is a great country to visit. The culture and their customs are different to other countries and that makes the Tunisians interesting. I visited with two friends of mine, along with my two daughters aged 15 and 13 and my friend's two daughters aged 9 and 10.
I found all Tunisians friendly and they have a great sense of humour. They can get a bit excited about women but again if you treat them politely and say "no" to all their offers and treat it as a joke you will have no problems. I was offered 100,000 camels for one of my daughters - we just thought it was very funny. They came home with loads of phone numbers but there is no harm in that!
People can be too serious about things like that.... it is all just fun!
The hotel we stayed in was great and the beaches are beautiful and I would love to get back there again.
One Tunisian boy has stayed in touch with my youngest daughter and he rang me to ask my premission to keep calling her and to be quite honest he is now like a son to me as he sends me messages from time to time to wish me well - I think he is really sweet and if the rest of the young men are like him you have nothing to worry about.

Two young financially independent women I know went there on holiday for a week, and while they enjoyed the country very much, many of the men they had to deal with, like waiters and hotel staff, kept offering to buy them wine, trying to worm their way into these women's pants. Not somewhere I would travel without my husband.

That said, a few years ago I had the pleasure to work with a charming young Tunisian boy who lived in Paris, he was a teenager and in my group of French kids who were learning English - he was a little older than the classmates and already one of life's great motivators and organisers, so I expect he will go on to do interesting things.

I went there on a 2 week holiday 3 years ago and thought it was a dump. Some random man in a shop tried to sell me a kitten!

i have been there twice,it was ok.the weather was great and the beaches are fab.i did notice that when i went anywhere,i never saw women, only men, even in the hotel i only saw 2 women working there, the rest were men.what i found good was young men very enthusiastic to make their own business but then you had others that would ask you to marry them as they wanted a better life away from tunisia.i went on my own and would be reluctant to go on my own again as i did recieve alot of unwanted attention, men dont know how to take NO for an answer!! i would however go back with a friend and i would like to see how they are progressing since i was there last, about 5 years ago.

I used to go to Tunisia a lot until, several occasions I found that they didn`t seem to want to help themselves when it came to suggesting things but instead wanted us to do all so I switched to another part of Africa where they may not be able to do all but at least they try,& if they don`t know something they ask.& are genuinely interested in what advice is given, unlike my experiences in Tunisia.
