arent storms in the Pacific called typhoons,
where does it change names ( I am aware of the difference in direction the storm rotates)

the name change takes place at 180 degrees West longitude......hurricanes happen all the time in the Pacific coast of the Americas.......there's one right now going into Baja Mexico.........in fact there's usually more in the Pacific than Atlantic............you don't hear as much about them because they re over open ocean and rarely hit anything, including Hawaii.....unless they curve back into Mexico....

typhoons start in mid Pacific and frequently do major damage to the Marshall Gilbert and Mariana islands ( Guam ) , which are 2000 miles off the Asian mainland......these storms then have another 10 days to build up before they hit the Philippines or China or Japan............think how much more damaging Katrina or Andrew would have been if they had had an extra TWO WEEKS to build up steam........

The storm does rotate different below the equator, and yes the Pacific cyclones are called Typhoons.

Hurricane happen in the Atlantic region on both American continents and rarely happen on the Pacific side...

Typhoon mostly occurs in Asia coastal area...
