I get about 6 hours of sleep every night, but even when I get more it makes no difference - I am sleepy and sit falling asleep at my desk all the next morning. On weekends, I eat breakfast and then I crawl back in bed. I'm just so sleepy! After noon or so, on any day, I'll be mostly okay after lunch. However, I still yawn all afterneon. While I'm drifting off to sleep at my desk in the mornings, I know I'm beginning to dream, because I'll have dreamlike thoughts that make no sense, and as soon as I pull myself back to wakefullness I'll realize it was a dream. I can practically do it with my eyes open. I've been to the doctor about it, and she gave me Ambien, to help me get better sleep at night. It does work, but I'm wondering if Ambien keeps working for 12 hours. Has anyone ever experienced this, and what did you do for it?

Can't tell you about Ambien, but I would say check out the low blood sugar link at www.hufa.org, and read up on low blood sugar. If this is the cause of your sleepyness (it was mine), then changing what you eat and how often you eat will start to make a big difference.

Best foods if you are not allergic are 5-minute oatmeal (1/2 cup portion - 3 times a week) and salmon (canned, fresh, frozen, smoked, or whatever) at least once a week or tuna (ditto) 2-3 times a week. Take some fruit or fresh green vege with you to work and have some at 9:30 am (presuming you have a day schedule) and some more at about 2:00. Have some almonds - about 9 at a time whenever you eat the fruit or vege. And start drinking water - 2 liters a day - if you are not already doing so.

The main rule is always have a little protein with each meal or snack.

Let me know if you try this and how you are doing. You can e-mail me through my profile.

You must have 8 hours or more to devote to sleep before you take Ambien also when you get up go straight to the shower and take a slightly cool bath. For breakfast eat oatmeal with a handful of raisons on the side and a apple( all wake the brain foods) and take some granola and raisons to work for wake ups in the day, I use to do this for a test and it got my brain functioning good. My husband went to the drug stor and the drugest gave him some B12 drops to put under his tongue and it works fo him, it gives me a headache. If these don't work I would get a ful chemical workup from the doc, not just a cbc. good luck.

Ambien can my you more sleepy. It depends on your body.
You need to make sure to tell your doctor that you are sleepy all day. This could be a underlying medical condition.

It could be your anemic. The docotor should do some blood work to see your red blood count ect.

I had the same symptoms, everything physical checked out, labs all normal. So I went for a sleep study...turns out I had sleep apnea and didn't even know it. Now I sleep with a cpap and feel marvelous when I get up, loads of energy. I encourage you to explore that possibility

You can't sleep too less, but you can't sleep too much too and that's all.You need to sleep every night the same hours because if you sleep 3 days very small time, but one day very many hours you'll still feel bad.I'm fighting with this all the time...
