CAUSATIVE AGENT - the virus or bacteria that causes a desease.

Agent - a substance that exerts some force or effect
Causative - effective or responsible as a cause or agent

Causative Agents? I'm not 100% on this, but my reaction is that it's the chemical/biological source that is responsible for disease/illness/distress.

Eg, the influenza virus is the causative agent of what's commonly known as "the flu".
