Had pain in my wrist for the past 8 weeks, thought it might solve itself since things usually do but it hasn't. I have no swelling or bruising but its painful to turn my wrist around, hold heavy items when my hand is out flat and bend my hand back towards my arm even slightly. It hurts on the side opposite to my thumb just under the bone that sticks out. I can also feel pain up that side of my arm sometimes (think it's the side of the ulna) Any ideas what's going on? I play a lot of hockey and I've got some big tournaments coming so any suggestions would be gratefully received! Thanks!

Hmm, pepzi_ban is right, it may be a result of too much keyboard use on your pc, but to be totaly sure, i'd suggest you see your doctor! Sounds like it might be something more!

Could be a number of problems, most common is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which is cause by RSI.

However, I had pain in the same place and it turned out one of the bones in my forearm (the ulna) was slightly longer than it should be and so the cartilage in my wrist was wearing away, causing pain. I got the pain all the way up to my shoulder too.

Physio didn't work and steroid injections took the pain away (after initially hurting more for a day or so) for a couple months, but eventually stopped working. I had an operation to shorten the bone, and it's been a lot better since. It occasionally aches but nothing near the pain levels I had before.

Go see your doctor, and if he/she can't help get them to refer you to a specialist.

Have you heard of Kienbock's disease - I suffered from that when I was younger until around 24 - haven't had an episode since.

I was taken to specialists who seemed to think I was putting it on, but I read my medical notes last year, and was surprised to see, that a specialist has said 'x-rays show Kienbock's disease in the right wrist and I think it is this that this girl is hanging her symptoms on'!

Nobody did anything and sometimes the pain was so great and it went as high as my shoulder, it put me to bed for a couple of days.

Liquid Glucosamin takes 6 weeks to start taking effect [Manchester United footballers use it!] you can buy it at your local chemist. Wear a support to keep your wrist in the same position and keep it warm. I don't know what caused my condition but I couldn't hold a tennis racket or pull things towards me.

good luck

You could just have a repetive strain injury from sports, or a trapped nerve, go to you doctors they can have you checked out and if need be a cousre of physio can be arranged wheich should sort the problem out for you. I have broke my wrist 4 times, the second two with no symptims but a twinge when i moved it too much so from experience using a wrist suport for a couple of weeks may help you out, so the muscles can heal while not being exhausted too much...Most places such as boots or superdrug sell them...good luck

Hi there i have had similar symptoms and i was diagnosed with carpol tunnel syndrom its kinda like a repeatitive strain injury! You should go see doctor if it is a severe case then a small operation maybe required! other than that they could maybe give u a hand support hope this helps!! ps I know it can be very painful

Sounds like carpel tunnel syndrome, try getting wrist guards from your pharmacy, and anti inflammatory drugs like Motrin for the pain. Holding and gripping the hockey stick will only make it worse. You need to let the inflammation calm down, and wear the guards as much as possible to the wrists straight, I even wear them to bed at night when mine flairs up. See a MD if you don't have time to wait to let it calm itself.

go see the doc. immediately, sound like you have a strain, from incorrect posturing of your whatever you do. Some mucicians get it, it is when they do not do the proper pre excersise, or abuse their arms in a way they should not. You have a strain, I think it begins with a T, check it out, soon.

You probably just need to rest it and stop putting strain on it. Going on the computer isnt helping it just give your arm a break for a few days and it should heal itself...if not get yourself to a doctor....they have the best answers out of anyone xxx hope it gets better soon xxx

Have you had a whack on the hand recently? Possibly a fracture of one of the small bones in the upper hand. Get it X rayed.

Sounds like it might be "carpal tunnel syndrome" - go to www.webmd.com and look up the symptoms etc. basically a repetitive strain injury commonly caused by incorrect ergonomic setup at your PC (mouse & keyboard location etc.).
