My 13 year olds wants to earn money to buy presents for his friends for Christmas by raking lawns this fall and by shoveling snow this winter...just wondering what the going rate or what people would be willing to pay to have this done for them.

It really depends on the size of the lawn and the driveway. You should estimate the time it will take and charge about $3-$4/hr because it's basic labor that people can do on their own. It has to be cheap enough that people think it's worth it. You shouldn't charge more than $20 though because it will seem expensive. You will find doing a good job at less cost will pay off later because people may tip you and you will have repeat customers/referrals.

When its a child that comes knocking on the door, most people will pay $10-$20 bucks for them to shovel or rake their leaves. This has been my children's experience anyway. However, it would depend on the size of the driveway and yard they are clearing.

I think any job regardless of the person doing it deserves to be paid a decent amount.
For raking lawns that are full of leafs should be $5 per hour.
For shoveling snow I would ask for $6 per hour.
If your son is a big kid and strong, could really get the job done quickly then I would go up $1 per hour.
Regardless that is hard work and I admire your sons desire to earn instead of whine his spending money. Right on Mom.

For an 'ordinary' sized driveway, $10 each snow. (with a hot chocolate 'tip' upon completion)

For a yard, that's tougher. Depends on the number of trees, WHERE do you put the leaves, how often it would be raked. For a 'standard' subdivision sized yard, I would guess $10.
