I don't know an y rich people so cannot really comment on their giving activities. I would think that as there are massive tax advantages to giving to charity, rich people would rather give to a recognised organisation to make sure they get their tax breaks than to give to any one individual.

Saying that though, if you have a specific thing in mind, sometimes they may consider an individual appeal. A friend of mine needed money for sponsorship to go to Africa to work on a school and approached a certain airline owner. The airline owner offered to pay the full amount of his sponsorship providing my friend could encourage one person to travel business class instead of economy class and back on one trip. He did it and is currently building classrooms or something somewhere in Africa.

I would NOT classify myself as a rich person, but I have recently signed up to a give as you earn scheme which allows me to make contributions to charity that are tax deductible meaning that the charity benefit by receiving a greater amount and I benefit by not having to pay the tax on it.

At the end of the day I work hard for my money and although I like to help others, I probably wouldn't give it to random poor people as I wouldn't know if they would spend it well or waste it on drink and drugs (I do not work my guts out to pay for other peoples habits or comforts)

I am not rich; but that is one of my favorite ways of giving. Someone I know needs help will get a money order from Santa, or the Great Pumpkin, or whoever. I know my money is going to a good cause and not administrative overhead; the person who needs it gets it all except for 46 cents to WalMart; and they never know who Santa is.

Yes they do, if they have any class then you'll not find out or know about them.

Being poor or begging is not a prerequsite for rich peple giving money away.

Firstly, it has to be deserving, and secondly, they normally have to like you.

Begging is not flattering.

Nice to know I got a thumbs down for saying i give money away...what a caring society we live in.

Yes people who work give money to people who don't work via income tax and the benefits system and it pisses me off that £163 of my hard earned wages goes every week to people like that **** down the road that hasn't worked since he left school, smokes dope all day and tears around in his manky little car with this god awful thump thump thump 'music' going on. That's where my
fu(ckin money goes

No, they don't because they can only write-off charity given to non-organizations on their taxes.
