Ronnie Biggs and others of his ilk...when they become ill in prison why is it that we should show any compassion or pity for these people?..Did they show any when they were fit and healthy and going about their illegal business?
Why do we make folk hero's of this scum!

Its not a question of religion and forgiveness it is a question of morals.
Quoting the bible is one thing...let Ronnie and his ilk make peace with their god on their death bed...their victims didn't get THAT opportunity!

In answer to Nick with the cross...how rude you are to suggest I don't take anothers opinion and would ridicule it.
You have your opinion and I and many others have theirs.
Where is it written that the followers of Christ are right or equally that they are wrong?
If as your profile suggests you think we should be able to express our opinions regardless of political correctness, do you feel it necessary to police my question and its reason for being posed?
Hypocrasy starts very close to home!

YEP - agree - Biggs, the Krays - the more we make them heroes the more people with no other talent other than destruction aim to follow in their footsteps,
To rehabilitate is one thing - but to put on a pedestal and hero worship - Hell no

Why should we show pity? From a neo-Darwinian worldview, we should not. Still we do. It doesn't matter what someone did, or their guilt or innocence. It is the common human experience to find the thought of personally mutilating another human to be revolting. Also, to neglect the suffering of others entirely causes the common human to experience some level of angst. This has no survival value at all. The pitiless person has a distinct evolutionary advantage. That is why some people feel the need to invoke Christianity in their answers. We believe that this wholly unnatural, unexplainable, and unpleasant emotion comes from God. Also, Christians will respond with their religious examples to explain why anyone created in the image of God is not scum. Undoubtedly, as you say, criminals should not become folk heroes, but your comments go much farther.

People will respond based on their various backgrounds and genetic make-up. You put your question to the public. Did you do so only to ridicule those who might disagree with you even slightly? Surely not.

May God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

Ronnie Biggs is a tough example. Now had you mentioned a different type of criminal such as Myra Hindley it would've been easier to answer (Maybe) I understand where you are coming from... Criminal activity is criminal activity. Why do we show compassion? Well i guess my answer would have to be because we are humans and i think that is what sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom. To be able to show compassion is part of what makes us what we are as a species. Nothing to do with Christianity.

we must show compassion for others.... that what Jesus did for us....
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Galatians 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Not all of us do.

some people are compationate, judgemental and forgiving about people they never know, time heals for them.

Some people have feeling for/about people they never even meet.

what information or expereince can they possibly base any feeling on ? Its not logical.

A similar phycology probably applies to people who mourn the death of someone they don't know. Thinking its sad Diana died is one thing, but openly crying your heart out in a national outpouring of misplaced grief is another.

I think you are right. The only reason he is back in the UK is because he wanted free health care because he was sick. I think he thought that they would let him go free on health grounds.

I do feel sorry for him in one way though. If he'd molested half a dozen children instead of stealing he'd probably be free by now. British justice just doesn't make any sense! How can stealing be worse than molesting children!

showing pity and compassion is not saying what he did is right what it says is you are a better person then he is. By not giving it you are going down to his level by thinking so badly. I hope you do not call yourself christian for if you do you are not following the teachings of christ who taught to forgive and love all even the worst of the worst.( he hung out with the worst of the worst for they needed the the love of others more then anyone else)

Too right. Why should your state of health affect how the law applies to you? The iller you are, the more crime you can get away with?

we are imperfect born with sin there is not a man are woman, are child without sin. so you see we make mistakes and when we do things wrong we sometimes feel sorry and want forgiviness from the one we wronged .try to imagine if for some unforseen reason something happen and you commented a crime and later you was remorseful for your actions it doesn,t mean you don,t know right from wrong and would you ,want a person to show compassion for you even jesus had compassion for sinner.

I would never show pity for such criminals who should rot and die in jail. They fully know that if they commit a crime, especially taking another's life, then they know whats coming and deserve it as their punishment.
