old wives tales?

what are any old wives tales that you share or believe in ,in your family about pregnancy
i thought it might be an interesting topic to have a laugh

my grandmother use to tell me never to do things that would require me raising my arms above my head because it would cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby and kill it

I am had twin boys 2 years ago and one has a very fast heart rate and the other one was slow - so this one made me laugh:

Pregnancy Myths - Fetal heart rate can indicate your baby's sex.
Truth: A normal fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute (bpm), although some people think if it's faster (usually above the 140 bpm range) it's a girl and if it's slower it's a boy. But there have been no studies that conclusively show that heart rate is a predictor for a baby's gender. Your baby's heart rate will probably differ from prenatal visit to prenatal visit anyway - depending on the age of the fetus and activity level at the time of the visit.

Well, my mom swears up and down she did this with my brother and it worked, and he does have a mark.
One night my brothers’ dad, not my dad, said to my mom, "That boy will be my boy, you've got Matt." (Matt my other brother, momma’s boy.) My mom replies as she is making brownies, "No he wont, I'll mark him." She took some of the brownie mix and wiped it on her upper thigh. My step dad, "You're crazy." When my brother was born sure enough he has a little chocolate spot on his right upper thigh. No joke and that kid worships my mom. He almost never leaves her side and she swears when she gets old she'll live with him.
The only other thing I have heard is whatever a woman eats the most or craves while she is pregnant, that will be the child’s favorite food. My mom ate so much pizza with me and pizza is my favorite food. I know a lot of people who get sick of eating pizza all the time but I could eat it every day.

A lot of people won't have a cot in the house until the baby is born (tends only to be for the first one though).

2. Some say the baby will take some characteristic of the last woman that spent a lot of time with you; i.e. after spending a week with my sister I went into labor and my son has my sister's rare ear shape. (True story)

The one that sticks in my mind is about cats stealing the babies breath while they were sleeping in their cribs. My family would never have cats because of that tale. An oldie for sure.

2) telling you are pregnant before 3 months will cause miscarriage
3) seeing something horrible will mark the baby

I know a lot of people that wont have a pushchair in the house before the new baby arrives coz its supposed to mean the baby wont come at all if you do....

Oh and eating a lot of dairy products will make your baby become a girl (unless of course it is a girl already)....
