Simple, don't give the gov't anymore money. They'll just abuse it anyway.
If you don't like them vote them out of power.

Australia is not the only Country that does it, my own Country America gives lots of Foreign Aid as well but often gets accused of being too greedy and/or not giving enough.
Yet low and behold America gives more than any other Country that some Countries are now competing with America on giving Foreign Aid and until Hurricane Katrina hardly anyone gave Foreign Aid to the United States (Israel and New Zealand did provide Foreign Aid to the U.S. last year after Hurricane Katrina).

They do it for the same reason that the US and the UK do it. It's called compassion. How can a compassionate person turn his head? How can a nation full of compassionate turn her head? It's what makes us who we are.....
I agree it seems to be a little too much at times.... but remember...even the poorest people in australia are better off then most people in 3rd world countries.
