Theres an Irish band called the Frames that have an amazing connection with the audience. Saw them in Liverpool and they're the only band I've seen that had the crowd standing in a seating venue from the first song all the way to the end. They invited members of the audience on stage to sing and the aisles were filled with people just having great time. An amazing live band.

Radiohead are far and away the best live act of the least ten years in terms of consistent high quality shows - the best of the 5 times I've seen them was Bastille Day 2003 in the roman amphitheatre in Nimes. The most technically gifted musician I have ever seen live was Stevie Ray Vaughan (twice) - his guitar playing went far beyond the trail blazed by Jimi Hendrix. He could sing too.... Probably the best singer in the rock idiom I've seen is a guy few people have heard of - Steve Gibbons - tremendous voice and a way of singing the lyric like he was telling you a story - which frequently he was.... The most dynamic band I've ever seen is probably the Who, though alas I never saw them with Keith Moon. My favourite all round rock concert is probably by a guy even fewer people have heard of: Chuck Prophet. He plays both rhythm and lead with a grace and fluidity that shames most guitarists and has an amazing tonal range which means his sound is quite unmistakable... again a great singer to boot. Special mention for pure showmanship goes to Beck -- his set this year with the puppet show was pure genius.

Iron Maiden -
Love the music. Bruce Dickenson is a proper entertainer who give it everything, all over the stage. The whole band have fun apart from just being talented.

Robert Plant -
He is a legend, performer witty with the microphone. His musicians were awsome. And a little dog ran out onto the stage for the encore lol

ZZ-Top
Back when 'afterburner' was new they played Wembley Arena.
The backdrop was a golden Egyptian death mask with sunglasses.
The front of the stage was made out to look like the dashboard of an old car, analogue dials and an old solid state radio etc.
When they got to their current songs ( i.e. the Afterburner stuff ) the 'dashboard' changed into a futuristic computerised dashboard.
There were lasers projecting from behind the sunglasses on the death mask, drawing pictures on the walls to correspond with the track being played.

The whole experience was fantastic.

I would have to say Muse.
They weren't necessarily the most entertaining in a 'mingle with the crowd way' but their performance is mindblowing.
I saw them at a music festival this year and was totally awe struck by the faultless standard.
The stage set was amazing with lasers and lights and the standard of instrumentals and vocals was enough to give me goosebumps and make me smile rather foolishly (I could'nt help it)
Needless to say, I am now a huge fan and shall be going to many more.

Just looked through all your answers first and was amazed to see Diane Ponzio's name, not a name you'd easily come across in the UK.
Anyway, have been to loads from Eric Clapton to Doyle Dykes and ZZ Top to Bon Joviwho I have to say were by far the best. Amazing stage presence and totally unrelenting performance and I met Richie Sambora, yummy. (Britannia Stadium, Stoke)

I'm not that into Rock 'n' Pop but Nina Simone was fantastic (saw her twice); she had the audience eating out of her hand. Radio Tarifa (Madrid-based band who incorporate North African influences) were also really good and you got to see their virtuoso playing of all their unusual instruments. Another highlight was James Bowman (countertenor who sings mostly Baroque music) up close in a small church in Paris.
