I believe they are far more intelligent that we give them credit for. They just cannot communicate their intelligence to us - as they don't have the same powers of speech or hands as we do. Parrots are extremely intelligent - experts say they have the intelligence of a 5 year old child! Dogs not only think about what is happening here and now, some actually think ahead and make decisions about what will happen! We had a German shepherd that would not let my little brother in the water at the beach - and a wave took our inflatable dingy away - he could have been in it, it was a good thing the dog saw the danger

Anything that has a brain can think, but the level of thought depends on its size. The only animals apart from humans that are capable of reasoned thought are chimps and dolphins, the rest operate on instinct coupled with limited learning abilities.

depends on what you mean on "think":
definitions:
v.tr.
To have or formulate in the mind.

To reason about or reflect on; ponder: Think how complex language is. Think the matter through.
To decide by reasoning, reflection, or pondering: thinking what to do.
To judge or regard; look upon: I think it only fair.
To believe; suppose: always thought he was right.

To expect; hope: They thought she'd arrive early.
To intend: They thought they'd take their time.
To call to mind; remember: I can't think what her name was.
To visualize; imagine: Think what a scene it will be at the reunion.
To devise or evolve; invent: thought up a plan to get rich quick.
To bring into a given condition by mental preoccupation: He thought himself into a panic over the impending examination.
To concentrate ones thoughts on

and well, in many cases it can easily be observed that animals can atleast one of the above things...in other words....YES THEY CAN THINK, they got a brain dont they :)

Yep they think and they think A LOT. Animals are actually smarter than humans in my opinion. Octopus can learn to open jars and flies have an excellent memory. You can train just about any animal to do just about anything.

Yes. Many experiments have been trialed to see if animals think and learn, and most can. Thraining a dog to sit is proof enough. Animals have personalities and can solve problems (usually to get to food).

They certainly can. In fact in many ways they are much cleverer than humans. How many of us could go in the garden and catch a mouse without any tools or traps ? A cat works out how to do it and then puts the plan into operation. Humans are supposed to be clever because we use tools. The truth is that we have to use tools because we're not so bright.

I think the question is can you think?

Tulip,
I find this question to be downright stupid. We are animals and most of us can think, so the answer is yes.

After watching me open his food bin, my puppy opened it on his own.

After seeing me tie and untie her lead rope, my mare untied herself. If you ask me, that took some thought.

I've seen horses be brought inside and try to untie eachother, I've seen horses take off other horses halters (not a halter shirt), I've seen cats learn how to say words and I believe that takes a lot of thought.

All animals think, you have to think to survive.

Try THINKING before you post these kind of questions because people are going to think you don't use your brain...

Oh yes!!!!!!! They certainly can think!!! I've spent all my life living our fellow mammals, and most have a level of conscious thought.Cats in particular, in my experince have a high level of thought and intelligence. If they have a problem, they think the problem through, then execute the plan to solve it. As for the use of tools........the pets we have, have only one tool, and it's similar to the Swiss Army Knife........Their human minions!!!!!!

i think animals are way more intelligent then humans..... i mean, c'mon! have you seen any horses trying to get dominance over elephants? answer: no! animals are satisfied with what they have. they aren't always trying to get MORE power, become MORE dominant, they're just simply happy to live. i think we should take a hint from animals
