God is not found in a link, thru diligent study of the Bible alone, or in short-cut pat answers to the most profound of all questions - what is 'love'?

I've been educated in a mission school, went to church regularly, joined cell groups, and other ministries... I didn't think God was genuinely 'real' until I had a mentor to 'break apart' everything I studied or was told about God. I began to have a genuine relationship with a person who 'knew' God (an older man who was both a psychologist and a Christian, and a Jew to boot). Not that studying about God was 'bad'; it was only cerebral stuff.

He personified God, as much as he did and he didn't have to try very hard, in all in imperfect ways, showing me how hypocritical I was without judging me, assisting me, facilitating me to be empowered all the time without being opinionated. I wouldn't have thought I could 'find' God in the flesh in this man who also had been hurt by Church's religiosity but who found his answers and showed me I could find my own if I 'dug' deep within; in this way, facilitating me to approach God myself, not have me think he is the only one who can get to God so I had to go thru him. I had a genuine relationship with this man, so, I believe I had 'known' God through this man's heart.

There is a God who is very personal to each one of us, and I wish I could say more to explain why. Not in a religious way either. Btw, the pastor is only doing his job. It doesn't he is any closer to God than you or I.

I don't know what else to say. I was fortunate to have that encounter which 'grew' me spiritually to believe I can 'know' God intimately (minus all those things others would like to share their opinion on Him).

My own experience of your question was when I was very ill and my life was at it's lowest ebb, I found my way to a church knelt down on the steps at the bottom of the altar, in a state of near collapse, and really hoped their was a God because I had nothing left in my head or my body. I did recover after about a year, and although I don't go to church, I believe in the spirit of faith, and since have helped other people in my life that felt empty and very very lost.

If you don't think you are a believer, seek deep into your heart. Find the very peaceful spot, mediate and ask yourself those very questions you can never answer before (then find the answer in the Scriptures).

If you are a believer, hold onto your way, don't go left or right, don't listen to human's wisdom.

ps. In Bible, the word 'know' usually means love. It is not usual to tell a reason for love, isn't it?

If you sincerely want to know God.... He will reveal himself to you.... at first in small ways......

I recommend prayer... and perhaps reading some of the bible or koran

talking to old people is good too.

But God is imaginary.

Do you have an imaginary deity watching over you. I surely don't.

Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be open to you. Quiet your mind and listen. Ask God to be with you and He will be. Seek wisdom and she will come to you. She is eager to be a friend to you.

peace
