Have you ever heard this old wives tale if a baby develops early they are moving out the way for the next child. My wife and I hear this all the time. Our four month old is and has been developing fast. Mothers stop us all the time and ask how old is she when we tell them their moths drop and she is doing that already or she can sit like that be careful she is moving out the way so you guys can have another one soon. Even our pediatrician says she is developing really well and passing all her mile stones early. The thinking is the child is trying to walk and talk so that you have less to worry about with the next baby. Just wondering because we have no intention of having another one for a few years but everyone is saying for us to double up on birth control because if not we will have another one before next year is out.
Ps jsut wondering if any one has heard this before

I've never heard that one and I don't really believe in old wives tales but this one might be true. My mother conceived me only three months after my sister was born--I'm not too sure but I believe I was an "accident." Lucky for them she was a fast developer. As much as I say I don't believe in old wives tales, I think everyone has tried one or another. In New Mexico there's a wives tale if you hand your wedding ring on a string above your belly while pregnant it'll turn right or left. If it turns right you are having a boy, left if you are having a girl. Tried that one and it turned out right. There's always a superstition in all of us--so if I were you I would double up.

Yes I heard this many times. All of my family is from the south so the "old wives tale" are told 2 every1 in the family. If a baby talks,sit-up,walk,has 2 top and 2 bottom teeth all b4 the age of 5-6mos the baby is "getting out the way 4 the next one". Here's another-when the baby stands and holds their hands on the floor in front of them-feet planted behind them and look between their legs "that baby can see the new 1 coming". Babies like this are supposed 2 be "wise & or old souls who've been here b4".
The 1 about baby looking thru the legs, some members in my family was pregnant and didn't know or became pregnant shortly after the baby did this.
Those old southern women gave us home remedies for babies & kids 2. LOL.
They are only "old wives tales" and if you choose 2 believe that's totally on you.I am just saying what I heard.

Actually I have heard that old wives tale, but do you really want to know the truth??

The truth is, as far as generations are concerned, our babies now are growing and learning far more faster and rapidly then we ever did coming up. You'll find now, especially in babies that they start to lift up their head and babble as early as 2 to 3 months, and you can pretty much sware that they can see clearly by 4 months by the way their eyes follow you across the room. They want to stand before they can crawl and they learn things that you swore you didn't teach them like screaming and how to get pissed, throwing things.

It's really all part of a different generation and it's kind of scary how fast they are. My daughter is only 1 and a half, and she picks up the remote control and channel surfs! She knows where the cookie jar is hiding and she can make her way into the refrigerator. She's not even 2 yet!

This is not only with your child, this seems to be the case with the majority of babies born today, and i dont know if its whats in our food or whatever, but they truly are far more advanced today.

As far as you stockin up on the pill, that also wouldnt hurt. You never know, just be on the safe side.

Well if that is true then I still have another pregnancy coming which is going to be kind of tricky since I had a hysterectomy 13 years ago! My daughter is an only child, she began walking at 8 months...not just pulling herself up and taking a couple of steps she was WALKING holding one of my hands along side me. By a year old she was talking in sentences, Her dad has a tape of her voice from his answering machine when he was stationed in Sicily and you can understand every word she says when he asks her "how are you" she says "okie dokie" he asked if she had been behaving and she said "I am a good girl" at the end of the conversation she says "bye bye daddy I love you". She was about 14 months old then. She knew her ABCS and numbers to 100 at age two, she could identify shapes and colors by 18 months, her favorite color was purple and her favorite shape was a triangle. "Normally" two year olds do not recognize triangles readily, and not many reconigze them at four years. She was reading before she was in kindergarten, not just the nursery rhymes children learn by rote but actual books. At 6 she was reading "Baby Sitter Club Book" and children's classics. My point is if she was making way for another baby I guess she will have to wait until her dad's girlfriend get's pregnant (IF she does now that she is over 40 herself), Or else if I'm going to be the one to get pregnant I'll be rich because the enquirer is going to want to pay me big bucks for the story of how a woman with no uterus, no tubes, no ovaries and no cervix got pregnant and the Government will be paying me big bucks because I'll be suing them because of the the Air Force Doctor's botched job at my hysterectomy. LOL
So the point in all of this is you were right in the beginning it IS an old wive's tale.

Never heard it...I was a first-born and developed very early (eating solid foods at a month, walking at 7 months, talking in full sentences at 2 years, etc). However, my sister is over 2 1/2 years younger than me.
My baby is developing early as well...not quite 4 mos old yet, already holds herself up (as in, stands on her legs), rolled over at 2 weeks, slept through the night (8+ hours) at 6 weeks,...everyone tells me she acts so much older...and we don't intend to EVER have another child...

Carrying High, Carrying Low The way you are carrying during your pregnancy is one of the most oft cited ways of determining the sex of your baby. The general story goes that, if you're carrying low, you're having a boy. If you are carrying high, then you must be having a girl. Science says "NO, NO, NO!" to this: the way you carry is determined by muscle and uterine tone as well as the position of your baby. But who's to say that boys don't like being lower in their mom's stomach while girls prefer a view from the top? What Your Urine Says This next test to determine a baby's sex may not be for everyone, although it is very simple. Just take a sample of your urine and mix it with Drano. Depending on the color change of your urine, you will have a boy or a girl. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on what color equals which sex. So, if you do decided to try this and your urine turns bluish yellow, brownish, brown, black or blue you will be having a boy. If your urine looks more greenish brown, green, blue or doesn't change at all, then you're having a girl. But be warned: if you decide to do this test, there could be some pretty harsh fumes produced - not to mention the possibility of an explosion!. Heartbeats One belief that has been around for some time, and even had some acceptance in the medical community at one point, is that the fetal heartbeat differs for boys and girls. If you're having a girl, then the fetal heart rate will be above 140. A boy will have a heart rate below 140. However, that pesky science has reared its little head again to say that this is complete fiction. A baby's heart rate is not affected by its sex until it is born, when a girl's heart rate will increase considerably compared with boys during labor. Craving Something…Sweet? Many people believe that your cravings are caused by the sex of your baby. So, if you can't get enough chocolate, you could be having a girl. Does the idea of drinking straight lemon juice sound delicious to you? Then those sour cravings are a result of the little boy inside of you. However, if you go by the scientists, then some of them will claim that you're not even having cravings because cravings just don't exist. Weight Gain Thankfully, this one doesn't refer to your weight gain. The belief is that, if your husband puts on weight during your pregnancy, then you will be having a girl. If he doesn't put on a pound, then you're carrying a boy. Is Her Face Round and Full? Some say that the shape and fullness of your face during pregnancy can indicate your baby's sex. Every woman gains weight differently during pregnancy, and every woman experiences different skin changes. If people tell you that because your face is round and rosy you are having a girl, they might be right - but it's just as likely that they are wrong! At-Home Tests · Here's a test that you can do next time you change or get out of the bath. Look in the mirror at your breasts. If the right one is larger, you're having a boy! A larger left breast indicates a girl (if they're the same size, does that mean you're having one of each?). · Hold a pendant over your hand. If the necklace swings back and forth, you're having a boy. If it is more of a circular motion, then it's a girl. This can also be done by suspending a ring on a string above your belly. · Do you have acne? Some believe that getting acne during your pregnancy indicates you're carrying a girl. Maybe the acne is caused by twice the amount of female hormones? · Pick up a key. If you've picked it up by the thinner end, you're having a girl. Picking it up by the bottom, rounder part means a boy is on the way. Did you pick it up by the middle? Then congratulations! You're having twins! · Ask yourself what you think you're having. In a study that asked women with no previous knowledge about their baby's sex, the moms-to-be correctly guessed the sex of their baby 71% of the time. Other Pregnancy Beliefs · If you hold your arms above your head, your baby's umbilical cord will get wrapped around its head and choke it. This myth may have a spiritual basis or it may have been a way to keep women from doing anything when they were pregnant (perhaps the myth was created by an overworked mother?). However, if your baby gets caught up in its umbilical cord (which happens in about a 1/3 of births) it is because your baby was very fidgety inside of you and moved around a lot, not because of you. · Similar to this is the belief in Hawaiian tradition that pregnant women should not wear leis. This folktale believed that wearing a lei would cause the umbilical cord to wrap around the baby's head and choke it. Nowadays, most people recognize that this folktale is a little over-the-top. · A pregnant woman should not take baths. This myth is routed in the belief that water can get into the vagina and thereby introduce bacteria to the baby. Scientists have proven that water does not enter a woman's vagina during a bath. In fact, baths will probably help pregnant women feel better by helping them relax.

I've never heard this before, but I don't know many old wives. Congratulations on your health baby.

We have five years space between our children, so that each could get the type of parenting necessary for optimal growth. We always heard frmo people their great surprise at both of our son's ages, because they are tall, smart, and agile. It doesn't mean a new baby is trying to come, it means your child is tall, smart, and agile.

Yes I have heard of this "old wives tale" but from what I hear it only works that way if your wife is pregnant right now.

I have never heard of this before - and as a mother of 5 children with twins on the way - it's not true.

My children developed early, because I spend time with them. Love them, help their learning skills at home. Read to them daily beginning before they can speak themselves. Teach them colors, letters, numbers, shapes, etc - before they even start preschool. Make everything a learning experience, even in a walk in the woods can teach a child much about nature & its wonders. Some of my children are considered geniuses - and it has nothing to do with their age differences. My almost 5 yr old was suggested to be a genius at the age of 2, and my twins won't be born until sometime around his 5th bday.
