I recently learned that floride in toothpastes have been proven to cause depression (especially post-partum). As a new Mom I want to avoid this (especially with having twins)! Is it safe to use non-floride toothpaste like WalaVita?

Should I alternate between pharmacy brands and organic brands so then I just reduce my floride intake? I hate getting cavities so I'm worried if I cut floride out all together that I might get cavities.

I think I'd stick with the fluoride... It been a long long time since fluoride was added to toothpaste and the track record has been good overall - great millions of people have used it successfully. Think about it....

NO, it is not safe. Human toothpaste just isn't designed for dogs, let alone puppies. Just because its safe for humans to swallow, does not mean that there isn't something in it that could hurt the puppy's system. If its an emergency, just use plain old water and give the teeth a good brush with that, then brush again once you've gotten puppy paste from the pet store. How bad can the puppy's teeth possibly be? Just use water, better to be safe than sorry.

Also, take into account that toothpaste is not your only source of fluoride. Different foods have low levels of fluoride in them naturally, and many municipalities add small quantities of fluoride to tap water to help prevent cavities in the general population.

There's really no need to worry about fluoride intake... as long as you don't swallow the toothpaste.

Fluoride toothpaste works better than non-fluoride. There is so little fluoride in toothpaste to begin with. Also, you are not swallowing the toothpaste, and so, no concerns. To get the bad fluoride side effects, you need to take a lot of it. Not the little amount you might swallow when you brush your teeth.

Flouride causes depression eh? That's a new one. Over the years flouride has been accredited to so many maladies that I don't know what to think any more.

One that theat is certain though is that non-flouride toothpaste is perfectly safe. The idea that non-flouride toothpaste is nothing more than a tasty goop is generaly wrong. It's not as good as Flouride toothpaste, but it still cleans your teeth.
