I've been using a water filter for years it does prevent a lot of limescale but doesn't totally eliminate it. I still de-scale my kettle every time I change my filter.

The filters in the cartridges for your Brita filter are too porous to filter out all of the calcium in the tap water you have. Calcium ions are VERY small and very difficult to remove. Most scientists actually complex them with something else to remove them. A calcium ion is only twice as large as an entire water molecule which would mean the filter to remove them would just BARELY allow water molecules through and it would be a very, VERY slow process. Besides, calcium's good for you.Just boil your kettle with some vinegar every couple of weeks to keep the lime from forming.

It helps prevent limescale but not entirely. I live in a hard water area & always use water fliters & still need to use de-scalers in my kettle. If you have the money, try having a water softner installed under the kitchen sink which will help.

No, a filter will help w/ chlorine and such. Limescale is due to hard water. Only a softenig system will prevent that.

Definitely...we use one in a 'hard water' area, and never have any limescale build up.

No, and it helps very little with water, just gets you to spend your money, tap water is just as good, tests have proved it. But you spend your money if you have nothing else to do with it, at least it keeps someone in work!

Oddly enough no, not in our area, guess it depends whether you have hard or soft water?
