Ive jus realised i chose the worst course in the world, im studying law for the past 4 years but i dont wanna become a solicitor and if i did, id have to do another 5 years of study. actually it seems that if i want to do anythin i have to go on to do more college work, ive spent 4 years in the classroom for what, nothing. iv no work experience or anything. at a recent college careers fair all the jobs open to me involved moving to dublin which i cant afford nor can i stand (no offence) its too hectic for me. besides i have a life and a family were i am and moving is not an option.
i work in a department store part time and im afraid im gonna be stuck there for the rest of my life.

I'm really sorry that you have put this amount into something that, ultimately you feel is unsuited to you...I know the feeling .
You will have picked up an awful lot of skills and learning though that could be applied to a lot of circumstances other than law. This could be anything like HR, where a calm and incisive mind is required, you get the idea...

A bachelor's degree earned in pursuit of a law course is still a bachelor's degree. There would seem to be plenty you could do to move up into the management and business area of the department store, or of other businesses in the area. You could also develop an Internet based business in a variety of ways, and you could certainly develop any sort of craft or art that you lean toward, or do any of the thousands of other things where just having been to college in general is an asset, even if you might have gotten more out of a different choice of major.

It wasn't wasted altogether just because it was not used to its maximum advantage. If you're not interested in being a lawyer, there's no point in going further than the BA until you decide what you want to do, but the BA is not wasted.

I recommend you get a copy of "What Color is Your Parachute?" in its latest incarnation. It is republished every year, and has become a standard for job search research and planning. The self-analysis necessary to decide what you want to do with your career is guided step-by-step, as is the job search process.

And remember, if you can't find a job, try creating one!!!

I've also recently finished a law degree (LLB) in the UK and just like you I realised in the second year that I didn't want to be a lawyer as I didn't really enjoy the course. However I was told that law is a very valuable degree and you can go in to any type of career with it- e.g. banking, finance, retail, marketing and so on. Your time hasn't been completely wasted, you could transfer to another course and gain credit for the studying you've done. Lecturers and careers advisers can help you with your career options. And as for having no work experience, that's something you can add to your c.v. by doing voluntary work such as charity organisations or working at a high street firm- employers are impressed by unpaid work experience. There are many options available to you, use them to your best advantage. Good luck!.

Hi There. I was in the exact same situation as you. I graduated from University with a LLB (Hons) but didnt want to pursue law. It's a fantastic business degree to gain entry into most positions. I am currently working as a Business Development Manager for a Software Company and am really enjoying it. However on leaving University I worked for a Recruitment Company as a Consultant as they were just looking for graduates.

I would advise you to find a graduate position that is not degree specific. Also Law is fantastic to work for Trading Standards or work within the police force on a graduate scheme.

So in all honesty it really depends on where ur interest lies and exactly what u want to do. But dont fret a law degree is so beneficial for any job as it shows that you are intelligent and have the potential to be dedicated to something and study!

You will find something so good luck!

I did the same!! I realised that I did not want to carry on with law when I realised the big difference between Law and Justice! I did two things - first I volunteered at local advice centre using the knowledge I had - this lead to a job there. Later I decided to return to studying and qualified as a social worker!
What ever you do I wish you luck and happiness.

you've already invested 4 years of studies, why not re-evaluate your options about becoming a para-legal instead.
