Get your parents to write a letter of recommendation as if You both have paid rent and lived with them for awhile. Find a house, and explain to the landlord, that this is your first house, and that you want to establish rent history, and prove to them that You have the income to keep up with the payments on time. Usually they sterotype with younger people, as they're not going to pay rent on time. Stay there for at least a year, and pay your rent on time, and get that landlord to write you a recommendation letter as well, and it will be much easier for years to come. The best thing to do is sell yourself.. talk to them, and take the sterotypical decisions out of their head before they think it.

Have a parent or friend with good rental history co-sign for you.
Check around at a lot of different rental properties. Some are more lenient than others. You may have to start in a not as nice place.
Offer to put down the two month's rent.

Sometimes the hardest things are the most worthwhile to pursue. Prove you can pay and assure the landlord with cash that you will not trash the place. Offer a lump sum amount to be held for six months (say an extra $1,000.00).
Good luck.

Just helped a friend at work with her daughter with this exact problem.........basically I told her to apply for the flat with her daughter and then once it's been going smoothly for 6 months. tell the Agent she was moving out and that there was another person moving in.
The daughter and her boyfriend got the place!!!!
Mum drops in as often as she can and says "Hi" to the neighbours. You just have to make sure you keep the payments up to date so you build up you reputation with the Agent.
Charterer references can really help too. One from your boss, club leader......anyone of some sort of authority.
Good luck!

1. offer to pay 2 months' rent as security deposit; 2. prove to the landlord that your joint incomes will be sufficient for you to be able to pay the rent on a regular basis; 3. get someone else to sign the lease saying that he/she will guarantee the rent if it's not paid on time.
