It is only the Dyson that demonstrates superior wit to get round the filth

Ah...vacuums I have known.

First one I ever encountered was actually a fraud - It was a thing called a Eubank, and essentially, it just had two circular brushes that whisked the dirst up and then let it fall down (For MonNog and other Eddie Izzard fans, this is what he refers to as a hodd-d-d-d because of the noise it used to make).

Just to throw this in, my grandma, who used the Eubank was called Peggy Kirby...

Then there was the Hoover...This was the 70s don't forget, so it actually came in Bay City Roller tartan, despite being manufactured in my home town in the Welsh Valleys - biggest Hoover factory in Europe, no less, during that period. My dad used to work there, and I can only apologise to anyone who encountered his handiwork. Still I guess it explains why I'm so full of hot air...

Then there was a bizzare little demi-Dalek with stuck-on eyes, who the manufacturers, in an obvious attempt to distract from the fact that it was useless, imbued with a personality and called Henry. I personally kicked the bejeesus out of him for being, as I might have mentioned entirely useless.

Now, despite my being a pretty dirty Devil, we have a perfectly reliable, bright yellow Dyson DC-07 that does everything you could want a vacuum to do, and is bagless to boot. When it comes to vacuum cleaners, you live, you learn, you buy Dyson...

Well we all know that Hoover sucks (and I have one that is ready to go off the edge of a cliff)
I have to say a Dyson in the hands of a french maid.
(hey this is a clean answer. I hate vacuuming my fave type would be one that someone else operates)

Definitely Miele (although I couldn't afford one). For something as utilitarian as a vacuum cleaner they're quite stylish and well-designed, especially the older models. The new S500 series are still fairly attractive and have cool retro names like Orion and Luna. My mom bought a candy apple red Miele about ten years ago and still loves it.

... oh, and apparently they work very well too.

The Dyson DC07 Yellow Upright Vacuum, of course. It just sucks!

hey... some of us take vac'ing very seriously, ya know, our babies crawl around on our carpets, gotta have a good vacuum cleaner... but on to my answer...
i used to be all about the Kirby, they are very good, but very expensive ... then my gramma bought a Dyson and it ROCKS .... i had to donate Kirby to the church to get the Dyson, but let me tell ya, it is AWESOME... i think it was like $200. at Sears & the Kirby was something like $700. from the door to door salesman ... the Dyson works better i believe & its much lighter and much more cost effective!
pathetic that i can go on and on about a vacuum cleaner, isn't it?

It really doesn’t matter what brand of vacuum cleaner I purchase, I always manage to get one that sucks.

You are on a roll babe. All of my choices suck. Did you know that President Herbert Hoover grew up in Oregon? Now that is someone who really sucked. Hoover voted for more money for livestock in 1931 and less money for people. Republicans, you have to love them.
