so where do grass seeds come from? I never saw a grass flower and I know grass spreads by roots...

If grass is left unmowed then it will get tall and "go to seed", the seeds will appear at the top of the grass blade.I love your observation.

You know that funny top on grasses.....plumes? Think Pampass Grass or an ornamental grass........or the funny tops on corn plants.........those are the flowers. Lawn grasses have them too.......as someone said, when you don't mow your lawn it gets a funny top, those are the flowers.

When we were little we would play "tree or bush" in the long grass. You would either leave it standing or strip it and make a little bush. The clippings from the tre/bush are grass seeds.
