Why do most Asians have a color prejudice?

Question

in places like Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, etc. white skin is highly prized (evidenced by the number of skin whitening commercials). But in the "West" most people think dark skin is more appealing.

I should add that I personally think it's stupid!

because those countries are scared to be called farmers...women want to look like they don't have to leave the house and work out side all day. Plus the lighter the skin...means that you are a pure breed. In Korea...anyone mixed does not have equal rights, there are no laws against discriminating against them either...sad ....

I heard that Puerto Rico was like that too! I use to date this Puerto Rican man and he said that the island was split the light skinned people could stand the dark skinned people and visa verse.

I don't get it! They're all from the same country but their divided. I guess division is everywhere. It's stupid! But I hope and pray that the ignorants aren't taking over the world out of hate, spite, and envy. It's just all bullsh/t! The ignorant ones are the ones that really need to take a look in the mirror at themselves before they start throwing stones elsewhere. There are no perfect human beings on this planet! Basically, those Asians who have a fairer skin are usually considered (by Asians) as lucky people who have enough intelligence and / or wealth to work in offices, and those with a darker skin means they have to do manual jobs outside in the sun. It is therefore related to a person's social status, and everyone wants a higher , not a lower one.
Another reason is that women here see a white skin as more beautiful and more attractive.

Socially, you are incorrect. Blacks (being that they have dark skin of all Americans and immigrants as a fact and named "black" because they are considered the darkest human) is not excepted openly in American society. The majority of Americans (most or almost all whites), next to the Spanish population, think tanned skin is the most appealing skin tone (not color).
Ps. Tan is no where near black. Just because blacks range in color from high yellow to dark brown, does not mean it is the same as a fact. Black is in cordination to night by the way as a fact.

levels of cultural exposure on asian countries have different opinions and preference.
Intelligent,educated people in the Philippines does not necessarily find fair skin appealing.
we like the native looks or the mestizos. We can't stand freckles. Fair Chinese traces are a bit sterile like doll.

In ancient times, pale skin was a sign of royality. I've been to Thailand, and was very uncomfortable at the amount of attention my red hair and blue eyes got me... but one Thai girl explained it to me, they associate pale skin with money.

Hey... I was outside all summer and couldn't get a tan to save my life! Personally, If I could have chosen, I'd have been hispanic... I love that skin tone and hair!

Look at it this way - it's human nature to want whatever you don't have; you like more what the other person has.

So, white people like dark skin and dark skinned people like to be fair.

Howeverrr, I'm from India and I have wheatish brown skin but I just love it! ;)
