You are not afraid of the dentist , but of the pain he might give you, and that is because your teeth have already experienced some kind of pain. Keep in mind the thought that the dentist will take away the pain, and that's what he does best, so just trust your dentist, and let him/her help you.

I can really identify with this question. Here in the US are many ways to make the experience better, you could ask for laughing gas and that makes the whole experience much easier. I had a life long fear of Dentists, brought on by dental work performed in Germany, no shots to numb anything, I was a child, the experience stayed with me.

I look at going to visit the dentist like this. Its a "visit," right? And I don't know of "any" visit that lasts a life time. However, if I "don't" visit him/her? The pain in my mouth "might" last a life time.....so I visit.

If it really bothers you, then just go to the dentist. Experience, not time, heals all wounds.
If it really doesn't bother you, then just don't go. Your teeth aren't really there anyway, we are all just stardust in the end.
