That's hard to answer because I love both kids and animals, if it were an older child, say 10 or 12 or older well I think they'd be able to find some kind of work or something to get a meal.
Yes a dog can scavage, but I doubt he'd find enough to sufficiently feed him.

I do believe the chances of a person finding a means to get some kind of food are more likely, where most starving animals are kicked to the curb as if their lives have no value and thats just wrong.
I'm partial to animals...I can't apologize for that....as a child growing up my dream was to become rich and save EVERY starving, homeless animal I could find, but then I grew up and reality sank in...lol
I've always given anything I could to a hungry animal, fortunately I've never found a starving child on the streets, with no means to find food.

A younger child maybe around 8 - 9 or under it'd be so hard to feed either or when they're both standing before you starving, SO... hopefully I'd be fortunate enough to be able to feed them both heartily, as it would break my heart to see anything animal or person of any age (but especially a small child) starving.

I just wanted to say btw, for those who criticize someone for choosing the animal, you'd have to be a true animal lover to understand where their heart is, I've always had animals in my life, dogs, cats, other animals, and I'm sorry (ok not really sorry) but a dog give them the basic needs, food, water, shelter, affection and a check up with a vet a cpl times a yr. and he or she will be loyal to you until the very end, can't say that much for humans...Sadly I can't say that for 99% of the people I know.

I say we now live in a society where human life has hardly any value, when people start to help an animal before helping a human being well it speaks for itself...the dog i would say is capable of finding food some where, but the child cannot eat anything off the street without becoming sick...and how can you say you understood the woman's feelings does human life mean so little to you?.....i think we as a society really need to take a hard long look at ourselves in the mirror, and ask what it is we have become.

I get eaten alive by guilt everytime i see a hungry dog or child. But if i give a starving child food, there may be so many hungry people who would outnumber me expecting me to give them food as well. last time i gave food to a hungry person... i was swamped by so many and i couldn't move... and i only had enough for one person...

I want to care for them but i can't handle that kind of pressure. I can't handle the pressure when you have so many people cornering you food. It makes you think about how fragile life is but i would simply crack under that pressure... it's spiritually rewarding but you need to be tough as nails.

Atleast for a dog, you can give it food and there won't be a horde of dogs wanting food from you. I love dogs so i break down because i feel sad that there is a person who is evil hearted to abuse a dog.

for a human, I would give money and food to a respectable charity because i know it's in the hands of a credible organization.

You sir are not a bad person. it's hard to care for someone without getting into a lot of trouble. If you feel so bad, why not give to a charity. that may make you rest easy.

Everybody needs help, even the mangy, hungry dog, but, A dog will scavenge where as a child may need more help finding food and a dog does not. If faced with this dilemma I would choose the child over the dog.

i guess its not 'wrong' as its a personal choice. But on the other hand what would that child think of the woman, ie she turned her back on the child to help a dog. I agree animals need help, as do humans, but i would always place the value of a human life above that of an animals.

by the way, is that a real pic of you?

I would always choose to put a human being before an animal. Also dogs can also scavenge to find its own food, a human child can not.

The way I see it: There are people and organizations to help people, and there are ones that help animals. Just because you yourself choose to help one over the other does NOT make you a bad person.
Clearly, it would be easier to help the dog (taking it in and feeding it and what not) than it is to help the kid (you can't just take a kid somewhere to feed it, that's kidnapping).

hmm...does somebody like dogs? By the way how do you know the woman getting out of the cab was a grandmother? Did you know her? Maybe she was childless? Makes you think doesn't it.

No man has ever stood taller than the man who stopped to help a child.

Yes some people love some animals more than human being. because the modern life is too cynical toward humanity.
