I have a fused vertebrae in my neck C5&C6, Its give me pain, tension, bad headaches sleepless nights since I was about 14 as I have got older and grown its got worse. Due to them being fused my nerves between them are being squashed and thats what causes the pain, also the vertebra above and below are getting stiff and painful as they are compensating for the fused ones. I have been to the physiotherapist, chiropractor & the Doctors but none help. After leaving the chiropractors I feel a little relief but only for about a hour. I get no sleep as the pain is so bad, only way I can get a good sleep is if I take Diazepam through the day which relaxes my muscles and knocks me out, but I cant do this for ever as the doctor told me id get addicted to them and I can see why. I have tried heat pads, cold pads, hot baths, cold baths, neck massage machines, inferred heat. Ive been told I could have surgery but its a 50 50% chance it would make it worse. anyone have this problem? if so what help u

I believe acupuncture might help , there is scepticism but it is an undeniable fact that the ancient orient knew more about the bodies nerves system than the entire modern world , don't look in the yellow pages find a family of orientals and ask for their help they will send you to someone who has no recognised credentials but has learned the art as it has been passed down through the generations ,

I had a Cervical Fusion also C5-6 with metal plate and 6 Titanium screws. I guess what you are saying is the surgery didn't help your pain. My surgery did help so my best advise is to get a second opinion from the best Orthopedic Surgeon you can find. You may have to have the surgery re-done if it did not fuse properly. I do have questions like what does your surgeon say about this? and...How long has it been since your surgery? and What does Valium (Diazepam) do for your pain? Diazepam is not even a pain pill, maybe you need to ask for Vicodin which is strictly used for pain. What worked best for me after surgery was neck stretches, heat/ice, and a vibrating neck pillow. Make sure to always have your neck arched during sleep. The right pillow is extrememly important and don't wear a neck brace...it will hinder the building of your neck muscles. Please message me if you need more help. I would be happy to talk with you. Good luck and God Bless!

I have this in my lower back, they removed a ruptured disc and didn't fuse. The nerve was damaged as well.
Here is what I found: Sitting exerts the most pounds of pressure on your back, then comes standing, then lying down. A friend of mine just herniated a disc in his neck from sitting at the computer all day--it's his job. The deal here seems to be get up and move around.
I took up yoga-beginners, the sort of thing you'd expect your grandmother to do. It does help. Go slow, and listen to your neck don't push too much at first.
I took up weight lifting--felt like a million bucks. Over did it and hurt myself. Bummer that. Waiting to get back into it, and I'll really take my time this time.
I do recommend the yoga and weight lifting (I did about 30 lbs. yeah, not much but it relieved the stress in my neck and back muscles and that's all I was after.) for my neck I really like the SITTING Bench Press. I have always used the machines with the pullies, free weights I find are way to heavy and taxing. Go slow, can't over stress that, it takes some time but it sure helped me.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

May I suggest an excellent book that may surprise you (it did me and I am a Chiropractor with 25 years of experience) with some powerful techniques for pain relief. It is called "Pain Free in 6 Weeks" by Sherry Rogers, M.D.

Dr. Rogers is a specialist in environmental medicine and nutritional biochemistry. In this book she explains many common causes of chronic pain that can be the result of environmental and/or nutritional problems. You may want to pay close attention to her explanations of 'nightshade' allergies and how they can cause chronic spinal pain.

The book is available at Amazon.com. I highly recommend it!

Best wishes and good luck.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.
