The rare times that I have opened an e-mail it isn't even my e-mail address. What can I do to stop this, please ? Does the Sender really know if I delete them ?

the best and safest way to guard yourself from spam/bulk mail is never to leave any trace of e-mail on any website. most of the sites that we normally visit thinking that they are "secure and safe" sell the data that we feed in or provide. i have 3-4 ids, one is for general registrations on the websites, other for personal mails from near and dear and next is for professional work. this may sound crazy, but it is indeed helping me to guard myself from spam.

since you are already getting bulk mail, one helpful tip. as one one fellow Y!Answers user simply said...just "delete"...dont even open the mail to check content. deleting, am sure is very tiring...ask me, i went through it myself. but this one is a sure shot way to solve bulk, junk or spam mail problem.

i found hotmail and gmail more secure when it comes to guarding from junk/spam. no offenses to Yahoo! team. i love using Yahoo! services. just what i felt like saying about the quality of spam guard on Y! mail.

perhaps, the sender can put in tracing cookies in the mail. just to be on safe side, don't open the mail to check content. Select and Delete...the best mantra!

If you put them in Spam it sends a message to the sender that the account is open. Just delete them and the sender doesn't know you deleted them but they know you didn't open them. I have blocked all spam because I was getting too many.

Nope, the sender sees nothing. And usually the sender you see in the message isn't the one who actually sent it. So yes: delete it. Most bulk mail folders have an 'empty' button. Use it often.
Never open links in your spam mails.

Delete the bulk mail without looking at it. You could also report it as spamming and yahoo will stop them sort of.

In Yahoo Mail Options, click on Spam Protection. In Spam Filter, select "Immediately delete these messages upon receipt. (Note: If you choose this option, you will not be able to review the messages before they are deleted.)" option.
