To answer your question - I have no idea. I find it really annoying. When I see questions such as 'who do u fink shud win xfacter...?', my heart sinks. What annoys me is that these people are expecting us to take time answering their questions when they have taken no time whatsoever preparing them.
I am sure that when they are going to be seen in public, e.g. in a club or going on a date, they would take some sort of care in their appearance - why not when they are typing? The absence of capital letters, punctuation, correct spelling et al is truly depressing.
I know I am not perfect, and was very embarrassed to see that I had two typos in a question I asked the other day (annoyingly I couldn't change it once it was posted), but it really does worry me when I see people ask, and reply to, questions in something that does not resemble any language whatsoever.
I annoyed a few people last week when I'd had a few glasses of wine and asked a similar question, then went on some sort of rampage, answering questions only to berate their lack of literacy.
I still find it annoying though. It's not that difficult to read over what you've typed before hitting the 'submit' button.
Perhaps the spellchecker on these peoples PC's has just given up trying.

Unfortunately there are so many lazy people nowadays who can barely be bothered to type simple words like "you" and "your", and instead shorten them to "u" and "ur". I find that VERY annoying!
It's only 2 more keypresses to say "you" and those keypresses make a huge difference to how you are perceived by an intelligent reader. Unfortunately it annoys me so much that it clouds my judgment somewhat: I can't help thinking that the person who writes their messages with this annoying shorthand are morons.
It's rare that I use the spellchecker unless I'm sending the document out to somewhere important, ie my CV or a covering letter. My spelling's generally quite good, although I do occasionally make the odd typo. My attitude is this: if people are going to mock me on a genuine typo then they themselves must be perfect beings...which of course is never the case.

Probably because they can't be bothered or see that it really makes any difference other than to a bunch of anally retentives who can still actually work out what they're trying to say. I never use it, my grammar and spelling are (nearly) perfect, but I don't get offended by people who can't spell, they've got something to say as well, maybe if they're using less of their brain to spell, they might be using more of it to give a good answer. I don't think spelling's that important, communication is. Why do people care?

You're obviously one of those people who think that being illiterate is easy. It takes a lot of hard work and spell checkers don't help. Unless there were spell checkers that converted words that made sense into something totally random.

there is a reality check for you honey , illiterate people can't read or write and when somebody lacks the basic linguistic development and comprehension of the written word, that doesn't mean they lack the means to communicate efficiently.

English translation: Some of them think they are cool because they write like this.
I think they need to go back to second grade.
What they don't seem to realize is that intelligent people do not take them seriously.
