Why isn't anyone doing anything. Is it because we can't get OIL or anything valuble? There is killings everyday...by the hundreds. I see this no matter where I look, T>V. news paper, internet. I can't believe what is going on and the world stands by watching.Babies starving, women and children being raped and thrown in gutters to die....why is it so bad...change something...help...I can't do it alone. If there was anything like hope,faith,care,love,warmpth,humanity..in the world leaders heart. They would and could do something. But I guess Africa has nothing that can fill the GOV's pockets...so they don't care...
My I really hope God punish all that are at fault. I am sorry for my feeling all out on yahoo Q&A...but no one else listens....

The entire world is sitting back and watching as Africa dies! The scourge of aids will kill nearly everyone there in the not too distant future. It may be the largest tragic story in human history. It is made worse by the commonly held belief that we gave it to them when we orally sprayed a polio vaccine into the mouths of huge numbers of Africans. This oral spray vaccine had a virus piggybacking along with it that became the Aids epidemic of today. The problem that faces the world today concerns the Africans themselves. How can they be helped when they make impossible the task of assistance. If you give them financial aid, it is stolen by the powerful among them, and none of the aid reaches the people. They suffer from their version of magical thinking, which shows when you try to give them drugs, for example. Leaders of some countries, or the witch doctors will tell people not to take the drugs, or not use condoms, etc. They don't understand the science, and it clashes with their beliefs, so the drugs don't get used. They have a tradition of promiscuity in their culture that is hard to break and tragic for aids. They are busy committing genocide on each other so frequently it is shocking beyond comprehension. What can be done? It appears everyone has walked away from this tragedy, waiting and watching as Africa dies. Is that the final answer? No one has come up with one so far.

Don't apologize! The world needs to care about Africa, our cradle of humanity (according to scientists). The poorer countries cannot just survive on aid all the time, and problems will not obviously fix over night. Some African nations need to sort out tribal and political problems before they can start fixing up their economies! I know Africans can do it, many are very very friendly and great people!

The African continent is rich in resources, but it seems like the people in government "take", while the poor people receive nothing.

We can't control the environment, like when there is a drought it isn't 100% our fault. So yes I do agree the richer countries should help out with aid. In Australia there is a drought on, and it's very sad as many farmers have commited suicide.

To sum up what I said, Africa needs to sort out its problem on a domestic scale as well as the international community helping on a regular basis. I love Africa and it's exotic nature!

Peace

Not the fault of the US!!
We helped and seemed to be the only ones that did.
I didn't hear of other countries sending billions of dollars worth of aid to them.
I think it's about time we turned our now limited resources inward and take care of our own.
Governments are corrupt, that's a fact with any government, and it's because of it that the people didn't get all that was sent to them.
Shoot them down for it, not us.

Of course it's very sad, but people are doing something every day! hundreds of charities are specified on Africa, and you know what, it just makes things worse. Its just making the country more and more poor and in dept and dependant on these charities. They need to sort things out themselves i think, because their situation is very bad, but the help they receive from outside just makes things worse. If you feel so bad, then you can help as well! Send money to them.

I believe a lot is being done in Africa. But there are wars and corruption there... What can you do about people wanting to kill each other and steal from each other? As with everything else, nothing can change from outside.
There are many other things though, we can do something about. For example:

Since when has anyone given a damn about black people??? Only because the celebrities got involved did we do something about Darfur. We'd rather spend billions on the war then send the money over to Africa.

Ok mother theresa, slow down.

before we condemn the west, what caused these children to be there in the first place? they had parents who gave birth to them. no matter what the lack of education does to a person, ai do not believe for a minute that lack of eduction is at fault for the births.

these parents give birth to children in a famine. a famine that has been there for decades. only an idiot would have kids in that environment. no excuse for their actions.

the governments may be at fault for the continued misery, but why arent the parents held accountable for their abuse. having children in a famine is murder too.

and if you believe that there is a god that punishes wrong doers, well it looks like god is punishing them in africa, so who can judge gods will...

too many hippies hugging trees without having seen a forest. thats you people. my friend wants to help them, and she became a teacher, and went to africa to teach at a school. you see, a dollar a day only helps (maybe) one person, but she is helping a village. this is better than crying and still doing nothing.

I say good for her and her empathy.
I say you are full of sympathy, and that doesnt make anything better.
too many people say "save the whales" and havent seen one.
too many people say "save the forests" and havent walked in one.

too many bullshitters saying crap to make themselves feel batter by acting like a responsible human, and showing emotion. bollocks. get your @ss over there and start making a difference. not a dollar a day. your effort.
