I don't know how to go about finding out about my inheritance

Did your father have a will? If so it may have left everything to your mother. She has no obligation to share it with you. If he left no will the laws vary by state. Wills must go to probate so you could find out from probate court. I don't know what kind of financial assets your father had, if it wasn't anything more complicated than a house and car, you may not have anything.
It is a bit cold to think of your inheritance instead of finding out if you can bury the hatchet with your mother. Try to be just polite, you don't have to be bosom buddies. It will make it a lot easier on you when she dies.

It could be that your Dad left his and your Mom's estate to her , in which case you'd better butter up to your Mom. If so the Estate won't be settled until she dies.

The lawyer should notify you. Your supposed to sign for anything with your name on it.
