maybe you are not talking enough. some people consider it rude to not talk. At any point during these conversations you could state your opinion, what are you so timid that you have to be asked to give an opinion? If you have something to say just say it!!
I know it is annoying and some people seem to literally not be able to help themselves, but you asked why.
The reason why is like I said previously lack of input from other people in conversation and also everything anyone says is from their frame of reference. You can't talk on somebody elses behalf that would be very strange!
All anyone does is talk about what they think, perhaps the ones that make this obvious are the truthful ones and all the rest of us are secretive bluffers.

Well, in this case, I know what you mean. Except I have a friend who constantly interuppts my conversations with her own. It's very insulting to me and I haven't yet found a way to confront her about it. I'm about to go off on her the next time she does it.
I'll be in the middle of a story of my own, and she'll break in and say, "Oh, speaking of blah blah blah, do you know what I did yesterday????" By the time she gets to her point, I've forgotten what the heck I was talking about.
I hate that crap.

Some people feel the need to be important and that in turn makes the express the things that they did or do.
A person who is secure in themselves does not need to feel important because they know that they are equally as important as anyone else.
These are the people who will ask what you think.
I have many times asked the opinions of others when I was not sure of something. It didn't matter who's opinion simply because they may see something in a different way and that could be important.

The reason people always say, "I did this, or I went here." is because they want you to share in their happiness, but if the person is your enemy they want you to feel bad. There's alot of things to talk about in this world and alot of people, this is why you hear it so much.

It's called GOSSIP - no I don't like it either especially when you mention something and they go on about how that's happened to them in a more severe way !!
