I went to the pub last week. There was a penny in the urinal. It was all brown and manky and looked old. When I was there yesterday there was a penny in the same urinal but it was all shiny.

Was it the same penny? Can urine or urinal cakes clean up coins?

Yep probably same penny, urine has some acidic properties that can remove oil and other things from copper! Alot of people do this as a joke on the janitors though!

Toilet & urnal cleaners contain acids. This would tend to take off the dark corrosion and lighten the penny. However, the color would have a pantina and would not be the same as a shinny new penny.

Why don't we all just start urinating on our pennies and then pass them off to others

it has a possibility if the urines contains acid.
and the acid oxidates the coin
but I`ve never heard if amoniacs can clean coins

Haha! What a great question ;)

Lol... I suspect it was the toilet cleaner rather than the pee that cleaned the coin..

Did you pick it up now that it was shiney?

If you see any more in there, just don't bend down to pick them up unless you're VERY sure of anybody else in there at the time........
