I'm guessing its a wireless connection BC its a laptop. if so her computer might be to far out of range, or there might be some kind of interference IE. microwaves. Before any1 goes clicking away at computer files, bring the laptop right by the wireless router (the desktop computer). If its still doesnt work click
1. START
2. RIGHT Click MY COMPUTER
3. RIGHT Click PROPERTIES
4. Click HARDWARE tab
5. Click DEVICE MANAGER
If there is a yellow question mark next to the network adapters
then its not working correctly. I only now how to fix that if its a dell computer... if it isnt at least you know what the problem is.

If there isnt a yellow question mark
1.START
2. Click CONTROL PANEL
3 Click NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS
4. Click NETWORK CONNECTIONS (the the bottom left)
5. RIGHT Click on your wireless connection
6. CLick PROPERTIES
7. Scroll down and click(highlight) INTERNET PROTOCOL
8. CLICK PROPERTIES
make sure both the obtain IP & obtain DNS server automaticly

if that doesnt work its probally interferance and there is a proxy setting that is off.

I never went to schools for computers but any1 i know comes to me b4 they spend money.

hope any of that helps

Click on your browser.
Or click on the big e on your desktop. It is the Microsoft Explorer browser.
Once you get your homepage up, you will be able to go to a search engine. FYI, Yahoo is a search engine.

your FIREWALL may be blocking all traffic. what do you run? zone alarm?

or have the short cuts to the explorer been erased? go to PROGRAMS and select from there, or download FIREFOX at another computer, and install it on her laptop, and see if it is a virus that is stopping explorer from opening.

run your virus checker, and also update its definitions. if it cant get them, maybe the firewall is the problem. if it can then the browser may be at fault. or another program that is used to load the page

your homepage could be likely in the form of ip address example, http://206.xxx.xxx.xxx/index.htm if the web page is on the laptop's web server.

else, if the web page is on the example geocities website, then check your filename names if correct or not after you upload the geocities web site.
