Earth is probably the planet most often known as the 'blue planet' because of the large amount of liquid surface water. The BBC recently produced a documentary hosted by Richard Attenbourgh called 'The Blue Planet,' focussing on life in the earth's oceans.

Earth. We have a water-laden, oxygenated atmosphere - while it lasts! And while the power-clods like George Bush, and Oz's PM Howard, are slowly admitting to climate change and doing b-all about it, the clowns of NASA are busy firing off rockets into space to find there's nobody there, and nowhere to go, and thereby destroying the ozone layer even more enthusiastically than ever - and the popular prophets of the media are forecasting exponential population growth, and fossil-fuelled automobiles, and more Gross National Product (i.e. gross global consumption) for decades to come. Blue? No wonder the poor old place is blue! But the growth/consumption lobby will fix that - to the end while it's monetarily profitable, and to hell with the quality of life, or life itself.
