Most corrupt department of the central government is Income Tax. If you tell about someone's wealth, they will raid his home, office or factory, then they will abuse him, it is might possible that they beat him too if he is not a 'pahucha hua aadmi'. Then they will make settlement over a huge amount as a bribe. After that they will tell your name to him. Listen, always stay away from police, income tax people, boiler inspectors, factory inspectors, weights and measurement inspectors, sales tax officers, excise officers, social workers, and stray dogs. If you come across any from this list, just take another root. These people can eat almost anything which comes free, then be it your **** too.

In all likelihood, the IT department does not have the time or the man power to investigate each and every tips regarding tax evasion that they recieve. Therefore the chances that your suggestions are even heard is rather remote.
The best way to apprehend someone who is tax evading is to inform some well known authority from within the IT department. Try this through your own tax accountant. If your accountant carries a lot of weight with that tax authority, then there is a good chance that your whistle blowing might be useful after all.

That depends on how much tax is recovered from the concerned person about whom you have passed on intimation of tax evasion to Income tax department.Further, it will also depend on how much crucial and specific is the information provided by you.
If your information results in recovery of tax; you can get upto 10% of recovered tax as reward. But you should know that actual recovery of tax takes many years.

Probably nothing. They will only be too concerned about their own benefits. They will not have time to thinks about you. Yes, it is also possible if the "thief" colludes with the IT dept. he shall come to know your name. Then be ready to face consequences.
So dear friend, my sincere advice is give just some hints, don't be in the forefront.
