If your using Window's O/S on your computer you've already got the best firewall! Just keep automatic updates turned on.
Even if the O/S is illegal you'll still get the Critical updates!
Not only is it free, it's already there! Don't have to do anything.
Good luck!

If you're running Windows XP, it's right there on your computer already. For all of the security holes that have been discovered in the Windows OS, the Windows Firewall has yet to be breached.
If you're looking for a gateway appliance, have a look at IPCop. It's a free , open-source, Linux-based firewall & VPN package. http://www.ipcop.org

If you are using Windows XP then the best free firewall that integrates well with your platform is Windows Firewall. This can be configured to allow certain connections and you can limit applications to access the internet.

I have been using this for years and have never gotten an infected file since. It's freeware b/c they want to sell the professional version. It rocks!
When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them.
I bought a complete, new system from them with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.
I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.
Good luck!
