I can't say now anymore than I could 15 years ago when i visited. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. There are many places in Africa with fascist regimes etc., it doesn't stop people from going there to visit. After visiting Zimbabwe (and it was the 8th African country I visited/lived in) I was seriously considering moving there, i loved it so much. It is a shame what Mugabe is doing, just as it is a shame what Mobutu did to Zaire. But these events don't happen in a vacuum...nonetheless Zimbabwe is one of the world's jewels and we should all care enough to protect it.

As an American, I would be a much happier world citizen if our president cared more about the people of Africa, than those he claims to be fighting for in the middle east. But that is another forum...

My Father and I are South Africans. One day some (other South African) friends of my fathers went to Zim to go fishing, they had some family and friends over from UK and took them with.
When they set up camp next to the river one of the British men hung a small Union Jack on his tent.
In true patriotism our friend from SA hung a small SA flag from his tent. The next day the Zim police came and arrested them, accusing them of being spies from their governments. Despite there only being fishing gear in their cars our friend and his family was held in detention in a prison in Zim for 30 days. They where only set free when no further evidence (other than their little A4 size flags and their fishing gear) could be found. They are all banned from entering Zim ever again. Show me one place in SA where innocent Tourists get a 30 day prison sentence and are only allowed one phone call to their family in all that time.

Maybe they're protesting about the disgusting racist regime which tortures political prisoners (if they don't get "disappeared" first). If Mugabe and his mob were white, the world and his wife would be condemning him, like South Africa in the old days (and don't get me started on Mbeki either).
