if it would come with the internet on it? Once I buy it, do I just plug it in and go and go online? Or what do I have to do with it? Many thanks. I hope it comes with a mouse - squeak, squeak LOL.

Lap tops have a built in mouse with them or you can attach one to it that is what i like to do with mine. As far as connecting it to the Internet you should find what all it comes with and what kind it is. If it is a newer one I'm sure you will be able to but you have to make sure it wireless or you will have to buy a wireless card which mine cost about 40 dollars. So who ever has this check out more and ask them these questions.

Hi,

£299 is a good deal on a laptop, however you might want to check what version of Windows is has on it and also what other applications it has, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook etc...

With regards to a mouse, laptops have an integrated mouse in the form of a touchpad or a nipple - yes that it what that little thing in the middle of the keys is called :)

For internet, the laptop may not have everything you need. I'd suggest broadband if you wish to use the internet a lot - dial-up is obsolete. For this you'll need to contact an internet service provider - generally good to go with whoever you pay the phone bills to. For this there are generally two options, wired or wireless. In which case you'll need either a network card or a wireless card in the laptop. If the processor is an Intel Centrino then wireless capability is already there for you.

For dial-up you'll need a modem.

With regards to the comments below that used computers come with no software, this should *not* be the case. Most people buy new machine with what's called OEM software (for Windows and Office anyhow). The licencing behind this is that it lives and dies on the machine it is first installed onto. So do not accept it without software.

Perhaps send on the link as was already suggested and we can have a look and comment at everything for you ;)

HTH

that's a cheap laptop. When you buy a new computer, you need to know what you want and what your getting. Wouldn't (myself) buy a brand-new computer that was less than 2 Ghz and had 1 gig of memory. You need to install your Internet software and sign up with an Internet provider also. Go DSL or Cable, not dial up. Make sure the computer has an Ethernet card too. Also now when you buy a computer, you don't get any software with it, it all expires and you have to pay to keep it. My friends bought a computer 6 months ago and didn't even get an operating system disk (windows XP). This is why computers are so cheap now, there is no software that comes with them anymore. You're better off buying a used one cheap and learning first then upgrading to a nicer machine that comes with software.

I'm sure you mean internet ready. Most commercial items are but you must ask. You may need a service provider with a disc to download. They are easy to use and follow instructions. You want to know how much memory it has and how much max it is capable of installing. The hard drive sounds like 20 gigabytes minimum with 512 mb of RAM installed. It should also have an operating system. I have windows XP pro. It should be in the hard drive already. You can get a mouse cheap anywhere and just plug it in in back. If you just go on line 20 and 512 is fine but as you add programs it will run steadily slower. Get the most gigs you can cause you will grow into it. My pc can hold 1 gig of memory and I added it on. At 512 I would be maxed out with a bunch of stuff on it. You don't want to have to get a new one when you figure out what you can do with one. There will be instructions with it. Ask all the questions you can think of and get customer support if possible. It gets complicated.

The internet depends on the individual laptop... also you'll need to pay for a provider for your internet.

Itt should come with a pad style mouse, if you want a "normal" mouse, you can pick one up for £10.

If you have a website address for it, send me it and I'll look it over for you.

MMMkay. and you are online right now ... how?
You must pay an internet service provider... cash.. every month .. to be on the net.
or .. you must have a wireless connection and... and.. be within range of wireless internet..etc etc.
Does the laptop come with a wireless thingy.. and are you in a huge city

haha..
well, to say that it comes with internet is not really correct.
it should come with the device to connect to the internet.
That means, you should be asking if the laptop has the devices to connect to various mode of internet i.e dial up (56k) or broadband internet connection

Ask them, if it has wireless adapter built into the laptop. (for wireless connection... the most convenient since you are using a notebook and want mobility)

and ask if it has ethernet connection (most laptop has it though). (to connect to cable or broadband)

ask if it has built in modem - just in case you prefer to connect to the dial up -though it is a slower connection.

if you have either of these 3, you are good to go online. you must have subscribed to internet service to be able to go online.

Cheers!

299 sounds like a good deal. it certainly is ready for internet use. usually laptops have built-in touchpads instead of a mouse.

However, in order to use internet you need a dial-up connection or broadband. check the BT website.

Laptops never have a mouse and you have to have internet access to go online. Find out more about computers before you buy !!!
