a group of bankrobbers has brought their booty to their hideout and suddenly they hear sirens approaching from a distance. guess what? it's time to hit the road!

You could do a twist on the subject - for instance. start out your story with time to hit the road, describe what you did while on the road (keeping in mind that you need some action for the end of the story that caused you to hit the road in the first place), then end the story with stating why you went on the road.
Time to hit the road. I've been through many towns...describe some, like a hobo town, a Harvard town, describe some things you did in each, or ways that you avoided detection, and then indicate what you did that caused ou to hit the road in the first place. it could be something bad (avoiding parenthood as the result of a one night stand) or good (making a trip across country to celebrate the memory of your life with someone ( like an anniversary trip across several states (or towns) with your husband of x years, where you remember doing things in certain places).

after being in an abusive relationship, you've decided to leave and he have just left for work and you can frantically pack your stuff and hit the road and go and stay with your friend he doesn't know! Or its the holidays and 4 of your best friends are starting a road trip. Or you're in a suckful course at University and you apply to an Airline job and get notification you've been accepted... you decide to hit the road and leave to go start a new adventure!
